DraftKings Main MLB Picks For May 16

13 of the 15 games are in the main DraftKings tournament. We have a few aces taking the mound, a few pitchers going where they have never gone before, and a few bargains lurking. Who are the beset plays? Let’s crunch some numbers!

More from DFS

The money line was a solid 125.95 last night. One of my lineups missed because of Brandon McCarthy. The other was well over thanks to Zack Godley and four home runs.

The winning lineup was only up a little to 195.3. He used Godley and Luis Perdomo, then cleaned house with every hitter except Jean Segura (9) getting at least 16 DraftKings points.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

May 10, 2017; Washington, DC, USA; Washington Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg (37) throws to the Baltimore Orioles during the fourth inning at Nationals Park. Mandatory Credit: Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Stephen Strasburg ($11,400): The Pirates are only 6-33(.182) against Strasburg with two runs and eight strikeouts. He should post elite numbers again in a big ballpark against a struggling offense. Strasburg is the most reliable option on the slate tonight.

P: Clayton Richard ($5,900): Richard has no history against the Brewers, but he will hold the big platoon edge against Eric Thames and Travis Shaw, provided they are in the lineup tonight. He pitched well in Texas in his last start, and dominated a good Arizona offense at home earlier this year. This price belies what he is capable of, but he has had a couple of poor starts mixed in there. There is the potential for that against the all-or-nothing Brewers, but he is capable of putting up pretty big strikeout numbers.

C: Caleb Joseph ($2,500): Joseph is hitting .353 with a homer and four RBI against left handed pitching so far this year. He will continue to play most of the time with Welington Castillo out, but I especially like him when a lefty is on the mound, especially at this price.

1B: Joey Votto ($4,600): Votto has clobbered John Lackey in his career. The 6-22(.273) is nothing to write home about, but he has walked seven times, doubled, homered twice, scored four times, and driven in six off of Lackey. A Reds stack against Lackey? Not a bad idea considering Cincinnati is hitting .294 off Lackey in 170 at bats. Lackey’s 4.29 ERA on the season supports this idea.

2B: Brian Dozier ($4,600): The Twins have never faced Kyle Freeland. Most of the league hasn’t. This is based on Dozier’s success against left handed pitching. He has 36 home runs in 346 games against lefties along with a .269 batting average, which is well above his career average.

3B: Miguel Sano ($4,700): Sano has belted 12 homers in only 210 career at bats against left handed pitchers. He has homered twice off of lefties in only 32 at bats this year with a .344 batting average. Sano’s power is on full display this year, even in a park that doesn’t play as a hitter’s park.

SS: Alcides Escobar ($2,700): Escobar is 3-11 with two doubles, two steals, and a run scored against Sabathia. This is just in case the CC with a 5.73 ERA shows up instead of the one that has handcuffed the Royals.

OF: Mike Trout ($5,400): Derek Holland has given up seven homers to the Angels. Albert Pujols and Trout have all of them. Pujols is off to kind of a slow start, and I like other options better at first base. However, Trout is a must play, even if he hadn’t homered in four straight games. He has. Trout is 14-43(.326) with six walks, three doubles, a triple, three homers, nine runs scored, and an impressive 12 RBI against Holland.

OF: Billy Hamilton ($4,500): Hamilton is 9-26(.346) against John Lackey in his career. Despite the fact that he doesn’t have a homer against him, Hamilton does have two doubles, two walks, six RBI, and a whopping seven steals! On top of that, Hamilton has swiped 13 bases in 19 games at Wrigley Field. Those steals rack up points in a hurry!

OF: Scott Schebler ($3,500): Completing my Reds stack is Schebler, who is 4-11(.364) with a triple, a homer, three runs scored, and a pair of RBI against John Lackey. If I do get cold feet stacking against Lackey, I like Jorge Soler at the same price against Sabathia.

May 8, 2017; New York City, NY, USA; New York Mets second baseman Neil Walker (20) watches his game winning walkoff single against the San Francisco Giants during the ninth inning at Citi Field. Mandatory Credit: Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Eduardo Rodriguez ($8,000): The Cardinals are only hitting .241 agianst left handed pitching this year with 62 strikeouts in 228 at bats. Those numbers are good news for Rodriguez, who has been cruising lately. He has turned in four consecutive quality starts, striking out at least five in each of those. Rodriguez looks to be in for a nice game tonight.

More from FanSided

P: CC Sabathia ($7,200): Sabathia’s numbers this season make this look like a crazy pick, but the current Royals are hitting just .188 against CC in 80 at bats with no homers, four runs scored, and 19 strikeouts. The Royals offense has been quiet most of the year anyway, but they have been pathetic against lefties with a .210 average and .589 OPS. That’s it. Sabathia’s ERA is nearly three full runs lower on the road. Things are looking up for Sabathia in this one.

C: Miguel Montero ($3,300): Montero is 8-19(.421) with a walk, a double, three homers, four runs scored, and seven RBI against Bronson Arroyo in his career. I thought about stacking Cubs, but Arroyo actually has a 3.19 career ERA in Wrigley Field.

1B: Paul Goldschmidt ($5,500): Not many Diamondbacks have faced Tommy Milone, but Goldie has. And yes, he has already homered off of him. Don’t be surprised if it happens again.

2B: Neil Walker ($4,700): Neil Walker has punished Zack Greinke in his career. Walker is only 7-27(.259) against Greinke, but he has a walk, a double, four homers, seven runs scored, and eight RBI off of him. Greinke has surrendered eight homers to the Mets in his career, so if you are looking for a contrarian stack, it could be here. However, there is always a risk stacking against a guy like Greinke.

3B: Chase Headley ($3,300): Headley is 7-25(.280) with two walks, a triple, three runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Jason Hammel. I want to load up on offense elsewhere, and Hammel has pitched pretty well this year, but I like Headley for this price.

SS: Eduardo Nunez ($3,600): Nunez is 3-7 with a double, a homer, and two RBI against Rich Hill. Now, there is no guarantee that Hill will last very long in this game, but Nunez will at least face him once. It seems like a good time for Nunez to get his first homer of the season. He hit 16 last year!

OF: Mike Trout ($5,400): I don’t often play a guy in both lineups, but when I do, they have destroyed opponents like Trout has Derek Holland.

OF: Nelson Cruz ($4,400): Cruz continues his hot hitting, smacking another home run last night. He slugged one off of Andrew Triggs the first time Triggs faced Seattle this year. Cruz is now 1-3 with a walk, that homer, two runs scored, and three RBI off of Triggs.

OF: Charlie Blackmon ($4,600): The Rockies’ offense takes a hit playing at 500 feet instead of 5,000 feet. It also takes a power hit moving from Coors Field to Target Field. At any rate, Phil Hughes is average, and Blackmon has the ability to beat up on average, even with the park hit.
