MLB DFS Value Plays for DraftKings and FanDuel May 22nd

I’ll be looking to uncover the most obvious MLB DFS Value Plays on each slate, and each site. Value plays will generally consist of under-priced players, or players priced differently on a given site. Some values will be in play on both sites, some will only be values on one specific site. Note that value tends to carry higher ownership and may be worth a fade in specific GPP contests.

Tonight’s slate features nine games, with Chicago (5.9), Arizona (5.5), Baltimore (5.2), and Cleveland (4.8), holding the best projected team totals. With high-priced players in play tonight, finding value will be critical for success. Here are a handful of value plays on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

DraftKings MLB Values:

May 20, 2017; Baltimore, MD, USA; Baltimore Orioles outfielder Seth Smith (12) singles in the second inning against the Toronto Blue Jays at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Mandatory Credit: Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Seth Smith – BAL (OF) – $3600

Baltimore will host the visiting Minnesota Twins, in a game in which Baltimore is projected to score 5.2 runs. Seth Smith will offer value at this price, considering his spot in the lineup (1st), and Baltimore’s team total. Smith should benefit from facing a righty, where he holds a .346 wOBA split.

Yasmany Thomas – ARI (OF) – $4200

Yasmany Thomas may not have the favorable split that we generally look to target, but he’s much cheaper on DraftKings, relative to FanDuel. Facing a righty, Thomas may see lower ownership than some of the other more expensive bats of the Diamondbacks. Thomas holds an average of .064 home runs per at bat, and is simply priced at a discount.

FanDuel MLB Values:

May 17, 2017; Kansas City, MO, USA; New York Yankees starting pitcher Michael Pineda (35) pitches against the Kansas City Royals in the first inning Kauffman Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Michael Pineda – NYY (P) – $8700

Michael Pineda will get the start on the bump for the Yankees tonight and he’s significantly underpriced on FanDuel, relative to DraftKings. At only $8700, Pineda offers strikeout upside, in addition to a projected opposing team total of a measly 3.5 runs, the lowest on the slate. Pineda as provided consistency of late, allowing no more than three earned runs since his first start of the year. Given the pricing discrepancy, Pineda should be considered tonight.

More from FanSided

Chris Owings – ARI (SS) – $3200

Thomas received the luxury of being discounted out DraftKings, whereas teammates such as, Chris Owings and Jake Lamb, are underpriced on FanDuel. Owings may lead off for Arizona, and if he does, he’ll make for one of the more affordable plays on the Diamondbacks. Owings also offers stolen base upside, as he’s stolen .194 bases per game this year.

Jake Lamb – ARI (3B) – $4300

Jake Lamb may be in the best spot of any of the Arizona hitters, as he holds drastic splits against right-handed pitching. When facing a righty, Lamb holds a .388 wOBA split and a .302 ISO split. Lamb is always a threat to go deep at any time, and given his recent batted ball data, it appears that he’s been hitting it much further than normal. In the last 15 days, Lamb’s batted balls have traveled 278 feet, up 47 feet from his yearly average of 231 feet.
