DraftKings Early MLB Picks For July 19

The games are almost evenly split today with seven games taking place in the afternoon. I’m not all that crazy about the pitching options today, but the better ones are in this DraftKings tournament, and there are stack options galore!

More from DFS

The money line last night was a solid 116.35 points. My lineup with Michael Wacha placed easily. The other was done in by a failed Rangers stack.

The winning lineup was all the way up to 237.25 DraftKings points. He paid up for Brad Peacock, but had huge nights from Chris Davis, and Nick Castellanos to bring home the prize.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

ANAHEIM, CA – JULY 14: Jacob Faria #34 of the Tampa Bay Rays looks over to first to hold Cameron Maybin #9 of the Los Angeles Angels during the third inning during the third inning at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on July 14, 2017 in Anaheim, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images) /

P: Carlos Carrasco ($13,400): Carrasco’s price is adjusted up because he is far and away the best pitcher out there today. He has held the Giants to a .186 average in 43 at bats with only four runs scored and three extra base hits. Furthermore, Carrasco has dominated on the road, posting a 2.86 ERA in ten road starts. The Giants wont strike out as much as most of Carrasco’s opponents, but AT&T Park is going to be kind to him today. He just might be worth this outlandish price.

P: Jake Faria ($9,400): Faria only deals in quality starts. All seven of his career starts have resulted in one. Now he gets to face a pretty weak offense in a gigantic ballpark. Expect another quality start here. In fact, Baltimore is the only team that has managed to get more than one run in against him! They got five earned (six total) in two games. No one else can touch him. Don’t expect that to change today.

C: Chris Gimenez ($2,800): It’s mostly a barren wasteland at catcher for day games after a night game. Gimenez has hit all five of his homers off of left handed pitching, and three of those have come at home in only 51 at bats.

1B: Carlos Santana ($3,800): Matt Cain has been respectable at home so far this year, so I am foregoing a full blown Cleveland stack. Still, I want some exposure just in case Cain goes off the rails

2B: Jed Lowrie ($2,800): Lowrie is still way too cheap for his skill set. Honestly, there is practically nothing this far down at second base, but I may switch up to Brad Miller even though he has struggled against Sonny Gray.

3B: Jose Ramirez ($4,500): I don’t care who is facing Ramirez. He hits everyone. He has cooled off a little bit since his torrid June, but he is still hitting .333 with two homers and six RBI in July. Ramirez is a threat no matter who is on the mound.

SS: Tim Beckham ($2,800): The Rays have Sonny Gray’s number. Sure, he has struck out 25, but it took 111 at bats to do it, and he has allowed more hits (28) than strikeouts. The Rays have also hit four homers and scored 18 runs. Beckham is 4-5 against Gray already with a double, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI. He is a great bargain this afternoon!

OF: Corey Dickerson ($3,600): Dickerson is still priced way too low. He hasn’t been as good in the two hole, but he doesn’t quite deserve to be priced this low either. He is 2-8 with a homer and three RBI in his career against Sonny Gray. Don’t be surprised if he busts out today.

OF: Mallex Smith ($3,500): Smith has been a revelation at leadoff for the Rays. If only they could get Dickerson to hit in his new spot in the order, this team may make the playoffs. Smith has singled and stolen a base in three at bats against Gray. I definitely want his speed in there today.

OF: Nick Williams ($3,400): Williams has phased out Daniel Nava, even with Aaron Altherr out. Williams has three homers and nine RBI since the All Star Break, and is priced way too low for what he is doing at the plate lately. Dan Straily will rack up strikeouts, but he isn’t an elite pitcher by any means.

DENVER, CO – JULY 17: Gerardo Parra #8 of the Colorado Rockies hits a home run in the seventh inning against the San Diego Padres at Coors Field on July 17, 2017 in Denver, Colorado. (Photo by Matthew Stockman/Getty Images) /

P: Jon Gray ($8,400): Gray doesn’t have much of a history against the Padres, but he posted a better ERA at home than on the road as a rookie last year. While his numbers still aren’t great at Coors, he has a lot of strikeout potential and opposing pitcher Clayton Richard is in a house of horrors at Coors Field. Gray has a solid chance at a win as well.

More from FanSided

P: Charlie Morton ($7,700): The Mariners have had no problems hitting his teammates, including Lance McCullers, but Morton has held the Mariners to a .229 average in 70 at bats with only one homer and six runs. He doesn’t strike out a lot of batters which limits his value, but if he can toss a quality start from this afternoon slate, I’ll take it.

C: Kurt Suzuki ($3,300): Suzuki is hitting .286 with three homers in just 28 at bats against left handed pitching this season. Mike Montgomery has struggled lately, and Suzuki has hit three homers in four July starts. I will pay a bit of a premium to see if he can do it again.

1B: Justin Bour ($4,600): After a bit of a slump in mid June, Bour is back to his old tricks again. He is hitting .270 with three homers and nine RBI in his last ten games. I will take a chance he does something against rookie Nick Pivetta. This may be a pitcher’s park, but Pivetta still has a 6.92 ERA on the road this year.

2B: Dee Gordon ($3,800): Gordon’s speed against a backup catcher and a pitcher that has struggled on the road? Don’t mind if I do!

3B: Nolan Arenado ($5,500): Clayton Richard doesn’t automatically stand out as a pitcher to stack against, but he has a 7.78 career ERA at Coors Field spanning seven starts. His solid road ERA is going to take a big hit today, and it starts with Arenado. He is 4-9 with a double, a triple, a run scored, and two RBI against Richard in his career.

SS: Trevor Story ($4,200): Story has singled and scored a run in his three at bats against Richard, but Story is finally starting to get comfortable at the plate. He is 5-16 with five RBI in five games since the All Star Break.

OF: Gerardo Parra ($4,800): Parra quietly carries a .398 average at Coors Field this year. He also has five homers in only 93 at bats. Parra  has homered twice in the last three games. He is getting hot at the right time, and against someone who struggles at Coors, is a must play in any Coors stack today.

OF: Odubel Herrera ($4,100): Herrera is 2-5 with a walk in his career against Dan Straily. That’s not much to go on, but Herrera has 63 DraftKings points in five games since the All Star Break. He is one of the few bright spots for the Phillies right now.

OF: Carlos Gonzalez ($3,600): CarGo continues to delight bargain shoppers, but at some point he has to start producing to actually be a bargain, right? He finally got his first hit since the All Star Break last night, so maybe he is breaking out of his slump. He is 8-35(.229) with two walks, five runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Richard, and the Padre bullpen is nothing to write home about once Richard is chased. I’m going back to the well one more time….
