DraftKings MLB Picks For July 25

The Cubs and White Sox have another matinee tilt at Wrigley today. All of the 14 other games are in this DraftKings tournament though, and we have a lot of big name pitchers going. Which ones are worth paying for? Where should we stack? Let’s check some stats!

More from DFS

The money line last night was at 123.35. My lineup anchored by James Paxton, Justin Verlander, Giancarlo Stanton, and Cody Bellinger placed easily. The other failed because of Eduardo Rodriguez and an ill-fated Reds mini stack.

The winning lineup was back up over 200 at 208.7. He used Mike Leake with Paxton and had huge nights from his Diamondback stack and Jose Altuve.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

CLEVELAND, OH – JULY 21: Michael Brantley #23 of the Cleveland Indians rounds first on an RBI double during the seventh inning against the Toronto Blue Jays at Progressive Field on July 21, 2017 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) /

P: Madison Bumgarner ($9,700): Bumgarner has looked rusty since coming off of the disabled list, and he gets a Pirates team that is hitting pretty well right now. That said, he is an elite pitcher price below five digits, and is at home where he owns a 2.78 career ERA. I like him more than the two pitchers priced higher than him and the one right below him, making MadBum the clear top pitcher for me tonight.

P: Jacob Faria ($8,500): Two of Faria’s seven straight quality starts to begin his career were against the Orioles. They did manage to hit three homers against him, but they only hit .200 and struck out 13 times. The Orioles are struggling, so even though his quality start streak was snaped against Oakland, I like Faria to begin a new one here.

C: Wilson Ramos ($3,200): Wade Miley has pretty good career numbers against the Rays, but his season stats erase that in a hurry. Miley has a 5.58 ERA on the season, and it jumps to 6.10 on the road. He was solid against the Rays earlier this season, but that was before the wheels came off. Miley has a dreadful 10.59 ERA in July. Did I mention right handers are hitting .319 against Miley as well? I want as many Rays righties as I can get tonight. Ramos is also 3-7 with a double and three RBI against Miley in his career. That doesn’t hurt.

Update: Wilson Ramos will not be in the lineup tonight, so I am going with Manny Pina for the same price against Edwin Jackson. Having a little exposure to Jackson likely isn’t a bad idea anyway.

1B: Eric Hosmer ($3,800): Michael Fulmer got blasted by the Royals in his last outing. Hosmer is 5-17(.294) with two walks, two homers, three runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Fulmer. I am very nervous about Fulmer again tonight since this is the team that got to him last week. Can Hosmer do it again? For this price, I’m willing to find out.

2B: Daniel Murphy ($4,700): Murphy is 2-6 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Zach Davies. Davies has been solid all season, but this is a really tough offense. I want some exposure here, and Murphy is the best place to do that.

3B: Evan Longoria ($4,100): Longoria is just 5-26(.192) off of Miley, but he has walked four times, doubled three times, homered twice, scored three runs, and driven in four. With the way Miley is struggling, Longoria seems to be the most likely to get to him tonight.

SS: Jose Peraza ($2,800): The Reds used the DH slot to get Peraza some at bats in an American League park last night, and I am thinking they will rest someone at DH again, opening up a slot for Peraza. He hasn’t done a whole lot this year, but he has the platoon advantage in a hitter’s park. That makes him worth a dart throw.

OF: Michael Brantley ($4,800): Brantley is 3-7 with a walk, two homers, and three RBI already in his career against Jesse Chavez. Chavez has good numbers again the rest of the team, but I want Brantley in there even if he only drives himself in tonight.

OF: Gerardo Parra ($4,800): Parra is 13-26 with two walks, four doubles, three triples, three homers ten runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Lance Lynn. I don’t care where you are playing, these are dominant stats. Lynn has struggled against lefties this year, which leaves him in a bad spot tonight, even if the game isn’t in Coors Field.

OF: Jose Bautista ($3,600): Bautista is 5-12 with a homer, two runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Sonny Gray. Joey Bats is still too cheap, especially now that he is at the top of the order again. His production is hampered some since the entire Blue Jays offense seems to be in a slump, but I still like Bautista in this price range.

CLEVELAND, OH – JULY 08: Starting pitcher Mike Clevinger #52 of the Cleveland Indians pitches against the Detroit Tigers during the second inning at Progressive Field on July 8, 2017 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Ron Schwane/Getty Images) /

P: Mike Clevinger ($9,400): I was searching around the wire in one of my season long leagues yesterday, and I found this guy on waivers. Keep in mind that this is a 12 team league, and a guy with a 2.73 ERA and 1.12 WHIP is out there! DraftKings has caught on, and his price reflects in, but Clevinger has a 1.36 ERA since getting blasted by Colorado way back on June 6th in Denver. Even with Trout back, the Angels are not the Rockies. Not even close. I like Clevinger to turn in another really solid outing.

More from FanSided

P: Drew Pomeranz ($7,800): Pomeranz has held the Mariners to a .205 average in 44 at bats with only two homers and four RBI to go with nine strikeouts. Most of Seattle’s power is from the left side, and as you saw last night, they can struggle against left handed pitching. That makes Pomeranz a likely candidate to perform above his price tonight.

C: Devin Mesoraco ($2,700): Jordan Montgomery has given up nine runs in his last two starts, so maybe teams are starting to figure him out. Whatever the case, I like Reds lefties here in Yankee Stadium, one of the few places in the league that it nicer for right handed power than their own park.

1B: Freddie Freeman ($5,300): The rust seems to be off as Freeman went 5-14 with a homer and four RBI in the four game set against the Dodgers in L.A. He has only faced Taijuan Walker three times. He hit a solo homer off of him. Chase Field is a very friendly park for left handed power, so I like Freeman and his history here tonight.

2B: Jed Lowrie ($3,900): The Blue Jays are rolling out Cesar Valdez, who has a 6.05 ERA in relief this year. The A’s don’t strike fear into the hearts of anyone, but they still get on base, and that could pose a problem for a pitcher than has a hard time recording outs. Lowrie looks like a solid value play tonight.

3B: Matt Chapman ($2,000): I will make this as simple as I can: Chapman has homered in three straight games, and is facing a pitcher that has struggled in relief. On top of that, he is still at the lowest price possible. Chapman was 9.9% owned last night, which means the secret is getting out. He may be 50% owned tonight, but I don’t care. It all comes down to what we do with the money we saved here.

SS: Corey Seager ($4,700): I’m a huge fan of Jose Berrios, but not in this matchup. The Dodgers have way too many left handed power bats for him to get out of this one with a quality start. Seager and Bellinger are both in play here. Berrios is still a really good pitcher, so I wont advocate a stack, but I am all for using the stars against him.

OF: Aaron Judge ($5,400): There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. The same could be true for Judge as it was for Dorothy Gale. What better way to end the worst slump of his career than returning to Yankee Stadium, where he is hitting .377 with 21 of his 33 homers and 42 RBI in only 151 at bats. Hard-throwing rookie Luis Castillo will oppose him. This looks like a great spot for Judge.

OF: Giancarlo Stanton ($4,800): Stanton homered twice more last night, bringing his long ball total over the last 11 games to eight. He is also 12-48 with three walks, two doubles, a triple, three homers, five runs scored, and seven RBI in his career against Cole Hamels. Now he gets to face Hamels in Rangers Ballpark, which is a hitter’s park this time of year. I’m all over Stanton again, especially when he is $900 cheaper than Springer.

OF: Marcell Ozuna ($3,900): Ozuna looks bargain priced too. He is 8-26(.308) with a walk, three homers, four runs scored, and five RBI against Hamels. Hamels gave up three homers to the Orioles in his last start, all to right handed batters. I really like Ozuna and Stanton tonight.
