DraftKings Main MLB Picks For July 26
Ten of the 15 games are in the main DraftKings tournament tonight. No one on this slate is as good as Sale, but that just means that this slate will be wide open. There are bargains all over the place, so who should we pay up for when we go cheap? Let’s check some stats!

The money line last night was down a little to 114.5 DraftKings points. Jameson Taillon getting lit up by the Giants had something to do with it. One of my lineups was done in by a below average start from Mike Clevinger and failed high priced hitters. The other lineup made it in because of solid pitching, Manny Pina, and Michael Brantley.
The winning lineup was all the way up to 228.35 DraftKings points. He used Jordan Montgomery and Charlie Morton as a solid base with Bradley Zimmer, Edwin Encarnacion, and Joey Gallo pushing him to the top.
These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Yu Darvish ($12,100): The only Marlin that really has any history against Darvish is Ichiro, but he is not the hitter he once was. The Marlins strike out quite a bit, and though Giancarlo may make his nearly nightly trip to the seats, Darvish will have more than enough strikeouts to overshadow that. Just keep an eye on his status all the way up to game time with trade rumors swirling.
P: Mike Fiers ($10,200): Only four current Phillies were around when Mike Fiers pitched for Milwaukee. They are a combined 2-9 against him with a run and a strikeout. Nothing to write home about. However, Fiers is a different pitcher than he was all those years ago in Milwaukee. He strikes out a lot of batters, and the Phillies offense is free swinging and doesn’t score a lot of runs. When you take into account that big hitting offense supporting him, Fiers has a great shot at a win and will get enough strikeouts to mitigate any damage done.
C: Hector Sanchez ($3,000): The numbers suggest that Steven Matz is merely an average lefty at this point. He has struggled against right handed batters this year. With Austin Hedges out, Sanchez has hit so well in July that he is going to make it difficult for the Padres to give the job back to Hedges. Sanchez is hitting .314 with four homers in just 45 at bats this month.
1B: Miguel Cabrera ($3,400): Cabrera is 6-17(.353) with four walks, two doubles, a triple, three homers, and four RBI in his career against Ian Kennedy. One of those homers came the last time Kennedy faced the Tigers. Don’t be surprised if Miggy knocks one out again. He will be a great bargain if he does.
2B: Ian Kinsler ($4,000): Kinsler is 7-18(.389) with four doubles, a homer, four runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Kennedy. Kennedy has already surrendered 19 home runs this season. Even though Detroit is a pitcher’s park, Kennedy could still get knocked around here.
3B: Matt Chapman ($2,900): Chapman’s homer streak ended at three games, but even on a night when the A’s were dominated, he still got on base. Chapman is still worth running out there at this price against the talented, but very inconsistent, Marco Estrada.
SS: Troy Tulowitzki ($2,900): The shine is starting to wear off of Paul Blackburn. The rookie has surrendered seven runs over 11.1 innings in his last two starts. Although Toronto hasn’t hit much lately, this still looks like a good situation for them. Blackburn has allowed a homer in three straight starts, so I am taking a couple of talented but slumping Blue Jays in hopes that they make it four straight.
OF: Domingo Santana ($4,100): Santana has only faced Gio Gonzalez in one game. He hit a two run homer off of him. Gio has been nasty at home, posting a 1.95 ERA there, but Santana could be that one.
OF: Jose Bautista ($3,900): Bautista is starting to come around now that he is back in the leadoff spot. I like the Jays to take Blackburn for four or five runs before he is done, and Bautista should be in on the festivities.
OF: Hunter Renfroe ($3,500): Renfroe has smacked three homers in the last two games against Mets pitching. Now he gets to face a struggling lefty in Steven Matz. Renfroe has a .422 wOBA against lefties this year. Those of you at the game need to look out in the Warehouse district.
Next: DraftKings Main Lineup 2
P: Jake Arrieta ($9,300): Arrieta may finally be getting on track. He has allowed three earned runs or less in all four July starts. Tonight he gets the White Sox on the south side with the series moving across town. He has not pitched all that well at Guaranteed Rate field, but the White Sox just are not scoring runs. They have only scored 29 runs in the last 11 games. This is a great situation for Arrieta, though with the way he has pitched this year, it still carries a certain amount of risk.

P: Jeff Hoffman ($6,600): Many will look at Hoffman’s 5.10 ERA and run the other way. That may be a mistake. Dig a little deeper, and you will find that Hoffman has a 2.46 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in five road starts. He looks like a good bet against the Cardinals in St. Louis tonight.
C: Yan Gomes ($2,900): Gomes is 3-9 with a walk in his career against Ricky Nolasco. All three of those hits cleared the fence and he has driven in five. Gomes is still cheap enough to take him and see if he can tag Nolasco again.
1B: Anthony Rizzo ($5,200): James Shields has solid career stats against the Cubs, but I can’t get past his 5.79 ERA this year or the 16 runs allowed in three July starts. He has also allowed five homers in July, so my strategy is to stack hitters against him that cost more than he does on DraftKings.
2B: Jose Ramirez ($5,200): Ramirez comes at a higher price, but he is also 3-9 against Nolasco with a walk, a double, a homer, two runs scored, and three RBI. There is a good chance that Cleveland racks up a healthy run total again tonight. Ramirez has cooled down some after his scorching start to July, but he is still a good bet against Nolasco.
3B: Joey Gallo ($3,600): Gallo smacked two more homers last night, and now has four in his last five games. That isn’t good news for Jose Urena, who has allowed five homers in his last four starts. If anyone takes him deep tonight, it will likely be Gallo. For this price, you can bet I’m taking that chance.
SS: Addison Russell ($3,900): Okay, so maybe Rizzo is the only one that tops Shields’ salary on DraftKings, but the rest of my Cubs selections have a whole lot of power. Shields has a tricky disease called “gopheritis.” Contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with rodents. It’s symptoms are really simple. A high number of pitched balls from him tend to fly over walls all over the league. That means it’s stack time!
OF: Bryce Harper ($5,400): Harper is 3-7 with two walks, a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Jimmy Nelson. Nelson’s ERA is well over two runs higher on the road, so using him in Nationals Park is not a good idea. However, if you have the money to stack Nats, then go right ahead. I at least want Harper due to the history.
OF: Jason Heyward ($4,000): Heyward only has seven homers on the season, but he is still helping the team out with timely hits and getting on base quite a bit. He doesn’t project to homer against Shields, but he is certainly capable. And if he is on base, one of his teammates will likely drive him in tonight against the struggling Shields.
OF: Kyle Schwarber ($3,700): This is purely a power play as Schwarber is still having issues getting on base. His average has crept up to .182 due to his .257 mark since being recalled from exile in Iowa, but he is still striking out a lot. That doesn’t matter to us DraftKings players since strikeouts don’t count against him. We are playing him for a homer tonight, plain and simple.
