DraftKings Main MLB Picks For July 29

Ten of the 15 games are in the main DraftKings tournament tonight. Unfortunately, DraftKings left off the Astros-Tigers game that starts at 6pm eastern. This game is a black hole for DFS players, which is disappointing because that will be a high scoring game. No one on this slate is as good as deGrom and Hill, but that just means that this slate will be wide open. There are bargains all over the place, so who should we pay up for when we go cheap? Let’s check some stats!

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – JULY 08: Adalberto Mejia #49 of the Minnesota Twins delivers a pitch against the Baltimore Orioles during the first inning of the game on July 8, 2017 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (Photo by Hannah Foslien/Getty Images) /

P: Zack Greinke ($12,200): The Cardinals are only hitting .241 in 79 at bats against Greinke, but they have only scored four runs and struck out 18 times. Greinke’s past stats are much better than Kluber’s, so despite the slightly tougher opponent, I like Greinke better here. He is a suitable fade option if you are looking for lower ownership than Kluber.

P: Adalberto Mejia ($6,400): Mejia has a 2.31 ERA in five road starts. He gets one of the better park upgrades of the night heading to Oakland. The A’s only managed three runs on Jaime Garcia last night. I would guess that is about where Mejia winds up, which makes him a great bargain tonight.

C: Drew Butera ($2,400): I am looking to save to pay up for Greinke, so my target was cheap right handed Royals to throw out there against a possibly rusty Eduardo Rodriguez. The Royals have been using Salvador Perez at DH nearly every other game. With a lefty on the mound, I would expect them to do the same and give Butera the platoon advantage.

1B: Freddie Freeman ($4,600): Why are four first baseman more expensive than Freeman? He is 6-16 with three walks, a double, two solo homers, and five runs scored in his career against Jerad Eickhoff. Eickhoff does have a 4.71 ERA on the season, and even though he is better at home, this is a ballpark tailored to lefty power. I like Freeman at this price.

2B: Dustin Pedroia ($4,200): Pedroia is one of the guys happy to see Trevor Cahill back in the American League. Pedroia is 4-8 with a double, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI already in his career against Cahill. It looks like a good night for Red Sox at Fenway.

3B: Rafael Devers ($3,000): Despite the arrival of Eduardo Nunez, Devers still started at third base with a lefty on the mound and recorded another hit. He is starting to get going, and the Sox aren’t looking to send him back down. Since they are keeping him here, he is likely going to keep starting. I like his chances against Cahill.

SS: Alcides Escobar ($2,700): Escobar is another of the cheap Royals I targeted because he is starting to hit after a slow start. He has five RBI in the last ten games. He isn’t running like he did in the past which tempers his value, but one of his three steals this year have come in that span. He may finally be getting going. Facing a lefty should only help.

OF: J.D. Martinez ($5,100): Martinez is 2-6 with a double and a RBI, against Mike Leake, but I have a feeling that he will add to that total tonight. Martinez is on an absolute tear in his new uniform. I don’t know why he isn’t the highest priced hitter by now, but I’m not complaining!

OF: A.J. Pollock ($5,000): Pollock is 6-10 with a double, a steal, a homer, five runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Mike Leake. After a strong start, Leake has fallen on hard times. That is not good news for the Cardinals, which makes me want to stack Diamondbacks.

OF: David Peralta ($4,400): Peralta is 4-6 with a run scored and a RBI in his career against Mike Leake. Peralta is still destroying right handed pitching. He could end up being the cheapest Diamondback tonight.

CLEVELAND, OH – JUNE 09: Edwin Encarnacion #10 of the Cleveland Indians hits a two run home run in the fifth inning against the Chicago White Sox at Progressive Field on June 9, 2017 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images) /

P: Sean Newcomb ($8,000): Newcomb’s price had a huge increase with good reason. The Phillies blasted Julio Teheran last night, and it wasn’t all lefties that did it. At any rate, I feel pretty good about Newcomb here considering he has a 3.94 ERA on the road this year. He had a rough run of games against the Cubs, Nationals, and Astros, but he turned in a quality start against the Dodgers his last time out. He should be able to do the same tonight.

More from FanSided

P: Kyle Hendricks ($7,300): The Brewers are hitting just .167 against Hendricks in 78 at bats. They have hit three homers off of him, but they have driven in seven. I am taking a shot at Milwuakee’s penchant for striking out. This was a low scoring game last night. I’m hoping that is the case again tonight.

C: Matt Wieters ($2,700): I want some exposure to German Marquez, but I decided not to stack Nationals at least in part because I don’t want to have to redo my entire lineup if the game is rained out again. There is a big risk of a rainout again tonight. At any rate, Wieters is very cheap against an average pitcher.

1B: Edwin Encarnacion ($5,300): The Indians are hitting .260 against Miguel Gonzalez with seve homers and 24 RBI is just 100 at bats. Those are staggering power numbers, and I expect that to continue. At the forefront it Encarnacion, who is 9-35(.257) with six walks, two doubles, four homers, eight runs scored, and a whopping 15 RBI against Gonzalez. We have to pay for Edwin tonight!

2B: Jose Ramirez ($4,500): Ramirez is 4-10 with two doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Gonzalez. When you factor in that he is in the midst of an offensive revolution this year, Ramirez is another enticing option in my Cleveland stack.

3B: Joey Gallo ($3,700): Gallo hit a home run in the game against Kevin Gausman a week ago. I will pay this to see if he does it again.

SS: Francisco Lindor ($4,600): Lindor is one of the few Indians that hasn’t been able to solve Gonzalez, but I think that changes tonight. Corey Kluber has actually struggled against the White Sox, even this watered down version of them. So I am fading pitching and stacking Indians against one of the weaker pitchers on the slate.

OF: Michael Brantley ($4,900): Brantley is 5-15 with two doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Miguel Gonzalez. Cleveland is poised to score a lot of runs, so I am taking the entire middle of the order.

OF: Bradley Zimmer ($4,900): Zimmer isn’t quite in the middle of the order, but he is close enough. He has power and a lot of speed, so no matter where he is in the order, I want him in mine.

OF: Shin-soo Choo ($4,100): Choo is 3-11 with a walk, a homer, and four RBI in his career against Kevin Gausman. He is still reasonably priced, and though Gausman has pitched better lately, I’m still more comfortable taking the Rangers while others stream Gausman. Let’s see if it pays off.
