Will Erasmo Ramirez Be Fantasy Relevant In Seattle?
The Rays and Mariners completed a rare deal at the trade deadline: a deal from a contender to another contender that helps out both teams. Here are the full details:
The Rays needed more bullpen help. The Mariners needed another starter with Drew Smyly and Hisashi Iwakuma both on the 60 day DL. This is great that it helps both real life teams, but what about the fantasy impact?
Steve Cishek is the third piece that the Rays have added to their bullpen at the deadline, but it is perhaps the most important. Alex Colome has looked good as the Rays closer, but Cishek has invaluable experience should he falter.
Cishek is worth picking up in leagues that count holds. He looks to the most qualified in the Rays bullpen to handle the eighth inning. In two appearances already with the Rays, Cishek has racked up four strikeouts in 2.2 innings without allowing a hit. He may even help your ratios in standard leagues. The fact that he is likely second in line for saves doesn’t hurt.

Seattle got a much-needed starter in Erasmo Ramirez. Ramirez heads back to Seattle where he was 7-12 in three seasons with the Mariners to start his career. He has a 4.80 ERA so far this season in eight starts and 18 relief appearances.
Ramirez is only of fantasy use in deeper leagues due to his low strikeout totals and 4.71 career ERA in 107 innings at Safeco Field. Ramirez can be serviceable in deep leagues and in DFS formats in favorable matchups, but he isn’t worth keeping on your roster the whole time unless you have a deep bench.
The immediate loser is likely Andrew Moore. If you were rostering him though, you were in seriously bad shape anyway, and Ramirez will still be an upgrade.
