DraftKings Main MLB Picks For August 3
12 of the 15 games are in the main DraftKings tournament tonight. All of the good pitching options go tonight. Should we fade them like we did last night? Sale and Carrasco got torched last night. Where are the bargains if we do fade? Let’s check some stats!

The money line last night was only 93.85 DraftKings points. Of course, both of my lineups missed. One was undone by Dallas Keuchel. The other was hurt by Cleveland being postponed and few big name hitters hitting.
The winning lineup was predictably down to 181.55. He used Zack Godley and Luke Weaver. the extra cash was spent wisely on a Marlins stack and Cody Bellinger.
These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Corey Kluber ($11,000): Kluber dominated in July, with a 2.62 ERA and 56 strikeouts in just 34.1 innings. He has a 2.02 ERA and 0.84 WHIP over his last ten starts. The Yankees were dominated yesterday by Jordan Zimmerman in Yankee Stadium. Do you really think they can touch Kluber in Cleveland, where he has a 2.38 ERA this year? I have my doubts, but any team that has Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez is always a threat.
P: Jerad Eickhoff ($9,200): The one time that Eickhoff faced the Angels, he dominated them. The current Angels only had 14 at bats in that game with just two hits and no runs. After a rocky start, Eickhoff appears to be back on track. He posted a 2.89 ERA in July while averaging more than a strikeout per inning. The Angels are still a pedestrian offense even with Mike Trout. Who would have thought that losing Cameron Maybin out of the leadoff slot would hurt the Angels worse than losing Trout? All kidding aside, Eickhoff finds himself in a very good spot to continue his hot streak.
C: Robinson Chirinos ($3,000): Adalberto Mejia has posted a 4.91 ERA at home, which makes this a very good time to use cheap Rangers righties against him. Chirinos and Mike Napoli certainly fit that bill. I spent up on pitching in this lineup, and was still able to field a lineup with a lot of potential. A lot of that is thanks to the cheap Rangers.
1B: Mike Napoli ($3,200): Napoli smacked eight homers in July. He also has seven homers against left handed pitching in just 72 at bats. Target Field is arguably more friendly to righties than his home park. I love Napoli at this price tonight!
2B: Jose Altuve ($5,500): Altuve is only 1-4 in his career against Blake Snell, but the hit is a home run. Snell has a penchant for walking batters, and he has surrendered eight run in just 30 at bats against Houston in his career. The Astros still are a formidable team even without Carlos Correa and George Springer. Altuve has “cooled off” over the last ten games, hitting “just” .476. He still hit over .500 in the month of July. That’s how hot he has been this year. Snell doesn’t stand a chance.
3B: Mike Moustakas ($4,400): I’m not sure why Moose is still this cheap against Yovani Gallardo. Moustakas is 3-6 with a homer, a double, and three RBI against Gallardo in his career. The Royals offense took off in July, mostly on the heels of a good month by Moose. Don’t be surprised if he keeps it up into August.
SS: Freddy Galvis ($3,500): Parker Bridwell‘s FIP suggests that a correction may be coming to his stellar stats. It could start here. The Phillies area averaging more than five runs per game since the All Star break, and will also get an extra hitter in the A.L. Park. Phillies hitters are cheap enough to arrange a stack if you feel like picking on Bridwell.
OF: Odubel Herrera ($4,000): Odubel Herrera is hitting .441 over the last ten games with three homers and seven RBI from the cleanup slot. Despite his recent tear, his price hasn’t reflected it. That’s why you have seen Herrera in many of my lineups lately. He is too cheap for his production right now.
OF: Max Kepler ($3,100): Be it A.J. Griffin or Austin Bibens-Dirkx that takes the mound for Texas, I still like Kepler. Despite his struggles, he is still hitting .292 against right handed pitching, and Target Field is still mostly a pitcher’s park. Most of the Twins’ salaries have been adjusted accordingly, leaving a stack a risky proposition, but Kepler remains very affordable despite a great matchup.
OF: Nick Williams ($2,900): Williams being scratched last night had nothing to do with performance. He just wasn’t feeling well. I’m assuming that Williams will be back in there. Like most of his teammates, his price is far too low for how well this team has been playing lately, at least on offense.
Next: DraftKings Main Lineup 2
P: Sonny Gray ($8,800): Gray has held the Indians to a 2.28 batting average in 123 at bats so far in his career. They have homered just once and driven in ten, but struck out 29 times. Progressive Field is a solid pitcher’s park, so I expect Gray’s Yankee debut to go pretty well.

P: Eduardo Rodriguez ($7,200): How badly did the White Sox gut their roster? So bad that only two current active White Sox players have ever faced Eduardo Rodriguez. Jose Abreu and Tim Anderson are a combined 0-6 with three strikeouts against Rodriguez. The Chicago offense was dominated by struggling lefty J.A. Happ yesterday afternoon. My money says that Rodriguez will do the same.
C: James McCann ($4,400): Chris Tillman is the proud owner of a 7.66 ERA. It has ballooned to 9.14 over his last ten starts. In that span, Tillman has allowed 14 home runs and failed to go more than five innings seven times. I am not putting an all out stack there since Tillman’s ERA is three runs better at home, but I do want some exposure.
1B: Lucas Duda ($4,800): If you need to save some money, Logan Morrison is a suitable substitute here against Collin McHugh since he has four homers against him in 13 at bats. However, Morrison has been slumping lately (until his homer last night) and Duda has three homers in a Rays uniform already.
2B: Robinson Cano ($4,200): Cano is 7-14 with three doubles, a homer, four runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Trevor Cahill. The change in uniform wont matter much to Cano. He is hitting .321 with seven homers and 28 RBI in 43 career games at Kaufman Stadium.
3B: Rafael Devers ($3,700): Devers continues to hit major league pitching, especially right handers. As long as he does, he will be a fixture in the Boston lineup. They have moved Eduardo Nunez all over the infield to spell regulars, but he has not cut into Devers’ time. That means whenever a righty is on the mound, Devers is going to be out there. He faces a particularly weak righty tonight in Miguel Gonzalez. He could put up numbers well beyond his price range.
SS: Tim Beckham ($4,400): Beckham has destroyed lefties all season, and he got to another one last night. If he can drive in a run off of Jason Vargas, I doubt that Matt Boyd will be able to stop him.
OF: Justin Upton ($5,000): Upton is expensive, but he is the best hitter that the Tigers have left. If Detroit gets to Tillman, you can bet that Upton will be right in the middle of it all.
OF: Khris Davis ($3,800): AT&T Park is one of the best pitcher’s havens in the league, but Davis’s home park is also a pitcher’s paradise, and he can still knock balls out of there. Ty Blach doesn’t strike out many batters, and when Davis makes contact against lefties, baseballs usually fly pretty far. For this price, I will take the chance that he takes one out against Blach.
OF: Adam Jones ($3,600): Jones has doubled and scored in his two at bats against Matthew Boyd. The Tigers are going to give up their share of runs as well. Again, I am avoiding an all out stack because Baltimore’s offense hasn’t been going well for much of the season. Still, Jones is way too cheap against a middling lefty.
