DraftKings Early MLB Picks For August 6

11 of the 15 games are in the early DraftKings tournament today. There are a lot of good pitching options out there, and most of them are reasonably priced. There are also plenty of pitchers worth stacking against, so just how do we save money? Let’s start by checking out some stats!

More from DFS

The money line was up to 122.95 yesterday afternoon despite only three games. My lineup missed, but I still broke triple digits. I suppose you could say that Rich Hill‘s somewhat disappointing outing helped me miss.

The winning lineup was only at 174.55, just under 52 points above the money line, so this was a hotly contested tournament. He saved money with Edwin Jackson, who was solid again. He also got a homer from every hitter! That is a rare feat indeed! That fateful lineup was Contreras, Bellinger, Chris Taylor, Justin Turner, Corey Seager, Conforto, Harper, and Puig.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

HOUSTON, TX – AUGUST 01: Chris Archer #22 of the Tampa Bay Rays pitches in the first inning against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park on August 1, 2017 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Bob Levey/Getty Images) /

P: Chris Archer ($11,300): Archer has never faced the Brewers, but he does have a 3.47 ERA in 11 home starts and 98 strikeouts in just 72.2 innings there. Yes, that is even without facing the Brewers. Archer is going to give up a couple of runs, but even more likely than that is double digit strikeouts. I’m paying up for that potential today. All a designated hitter means for the Brewers is a more experienced strikeout artist than the pitcher that usually occupies that slot.

P: Lucas Sims ($4,500): This price is just absurd. Only Homer Bailey, Mike Pelfrey, and Nick Martinez are cheaper. Tomato cans such as Anibal Sanchez and Doug Fister will cost you at least $500 more. Miami has some power in this lineup, but they are not overly patient, nor do they get on base a lot. Sims held the Nationals to three runs in six innings in his major league debut. He should be at least that good against the Marlins, practically for free. His price should be at least $2,000 higher, but I’m glad it isn’t.

C: Jose Lobaton ($2,500): Lobaton should be a cheap starter at Wrigley Field. At catcher, that is all we are looking for today: a cheap starter. Very few regulars will get the nod today, so this is the position to punt.

1B: Joey Votto ($4,800): Votto is 13-45(.289) with six walks, four doubles, two homers, ten runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Adam Wainwright. Votto is riding a ten game hitting streak, hitting .412 with two homers and nine RBI in that span. Wainwright doesn’t stand a chance!

2B: Jose Altuve ($5,200): Altuve has scored a staggering 64 DraftKings points in four games against the Blue Jays this year, and that includes a scoreless game last night. Don’t count on him going scoreless against Marcus Stroman today. Altuve is 2-8 with a solo homer and two runs scored against Stroman in his career.

3B: Todd Frazier ($3,900): Frazier is 8-21(.381) with two walks, four doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Carlos Carrasco. This is kinda risky after watching what Danny Salazar did to the Yankees last night, but Frazier is priced to buy here.

SS: Tim Beckham ($4,900): Another game, another multi-hit day for Beckham. He will cool off sometime, but I doubt it’s today against Anibal Sanchez. Not only did Beckham have another multi-hit game, he also has homered in back to back games now. What else can he possibly do? Steal a base? Stay tuned…..

OF: Justin Upton ($5,300): Upton is 9-33(.273) with four walks, four doubles, a triple, two homers, six runs scored, two steals, and eight RBI in his career against Ubaldo Jimenez. Upton has raked against the Orioles in this series. Expect him to do the same today to close this out.

OF: Seth Smith ($4,300): Smith is 7-21 with four walks, a double, two homers, four runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Anibal Sanchez. Ubaldo is probably the weaker link, but the Orioles have more proven offensive players.

OF: Jim Adduci ($3,100): Adduci is batting second against righties, and this lineup has the potential to score quite a few runs against Ubaldo and the Orioles bullpen. He looks like a solid bargain play once again.

BALTIMORE, MD – JULY 31: Starting pitcher Danny Duffy #41 of the Kansas City Royals works the first inning against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on July 31, 2017 in Baltimore, Maryland. (Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images) /

P: Danny Duffy ($9,000): Duffy will go in the matinee today. While the Mariners dont’ strike out an awful lot, Duffy has a stellar 2.94 ERA in seven home starts. He gave up two runs on five hits to the Mariners early in the season in Seattle. He should be at least that good against the Mariners at home today.

More from FanSided

P: Jimmy Nelson ($8,600): Nelson has faced five current Rays, all when they were in the National League. Things didn’t go so well. Both Wilson Ramos and Lucas Duda have taken him deep, and those five have driven in seven runs in just 14 at bats! However, Tampa is one of the friendliest pitcher’s parks around, which should be a nice change of pace for Nelson given his hitter friendly home park. Add in the elevated strikeout potential of the Rays, and I see a strong start for Nelson today.

C: Carson Kelly ($2,900): Homer Bailey is sporting a 7.32 ERA on the season, and it isn’t just the long ball that’s hurting him. He has allowed a terrifying 57 hits and 16 walks in just 39.1 innings! The Cardinals look poised to get a lot of hits today. I’m starting the stack with Kelly, who destroyed AAA before his call up.

1B: Matt Carpenter ($3,900): Carpenter is a staggering 17-29(.586) with three doubles, four runs scored, a steal, and four RBI in his career against Homer Bailey. Expect some more hits today!

2B: Kolten Wong ($3,900): Wong took a 98 MPH heater in the earhole last night and stayed in the game. He could play for the St. Louis Blues in the offseason! At any rate, Wong is 4-8 with four walks, a triple, a steal, two runs scored, and two RBI in his career off of Bailey. If he is in the Cardinals lineup, I want him in mine.

3B: Rafael Devers ($4,400): Mike Pelfrey has been so bad this year that even the White Sox, who sold everything that wasn’t bolted down, couldn’t find a taker at the deadline for his 5.04 ERA. The White Sox will keep giving him the ball, and I will keep stacking against him. Devers is a great place to start. He has a .350 average and three homers in his first 40 at bats!

SS: Paul DeJong ($4,600): The rookie has 15 homers in only 57 games in St Louis this year. He is as good a bet as any against Homer Bailey today.

OF: Mookie Betts ($5,300): Betts is facing one of the teams that is easy to run on and a struggling pitcher. I really can’t think of a reason not to pay up for Betts today.

OF: Andrew Benintendi ($4,300): Benintendi smacked a two run homer last night. He has broken out of his slump against the White Sox this weekend. Expect him to finish it off with a bang!

OF: Nicky Delmonico ($3,100): Delmonico has burst onto the scene with six hits in 12 at bats with a homer and five RBI at Fenway Park this weekend. With Doug Fister on the mound, a pretty average righty, I like Delmonico for this bargain price.
