MLB DFS Value Plays DraftKings and FanDuel August 21st

I’ll be looking to uncover the most obvious MLB DFS Value on each slate, and each site. Value plays will generally consist of under-priced players, or players priced differently on a given site. Some values will be in play on both sites, some will only be values on one specific site. Note that value tends to carry higher ownership and may be worth a fade in specific GPP contests.

Tonight’s slate features eight games, with Baltimore (5.9), Minnesota (5.3), Cleveland (5.1), and Seattle (4.9), holding the best projected team totals. With high priced players available tonight, finding value will be critical to success. Here are a handful of value plays on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

DraftKings MLB Values:

Robinson Cano – SEA (2B) – $4400

While he’s not the cheapest option, Robinson Cano is still fairly under-priced on DraftKings, relative to FanDuel. Seattle has a solid team total of 4.9 runs, in a road game against the Braves. Cano will benefit from facing a righty, where he holds a .376 wOBA split (.081 better than when facing a lefty) and a .223 ISO split (.085 better than when facing a lefty).

Yasmani Grandal – LAD (C) – $3800

Yasmani Grandal is another hitter who should benefit from a positive match-up vs. a righty. Grandal, a switch hitter, holds a .356 wOBA split and a .247 ISO split. If he can draw a spot near the top of the order, he’ll be one of the best plays at catcher tonight. Grandal offers power upside, with an average of .054 home runs per at bat.

FanDuel MLB Values:

Manny Machado – BAL (3B) – $4100

Baltimore holds the best projected team total tonight, in a match-up with the visiting A’s. Manny Machado is a bit expensive, but relative to his price on DraftKings, the team total, and the pricing of other top players, he’s a bargain. Machado has been raking of late, including a three home run game last week. In the last 15 days, his distance is up 14 feet, his hard hit percentage is up 1%, and his exit velocity is up 2 MPH.

Tim Beckham – BAL (SS) – $3400

Tim Beckham should lead off again tonight and is simply too cheap given the team total of 5.9 runs. Beckham’s price hasn’t changed much for today’s slate, and he’s in a much better spot here tonight. DraftKings has priced Beckham and the rest of the Orioles up tonight, so expect Beckham to be highly owned on FanDuel.

Jake Lamb – ARI (3B) – $3500

Arizona will be on the road tonight against the Mets, and they hold a team total of 4.8 runs. Lefties like Jake Lamb should be at an advantage, as they’ll face the righty, Gsellman. This will only be Gsellman’s second start after returning from a two month layoff. Lamb is much better against righties, holding a .382 wOBA split and a .268 ISO split. Lamb homered last night, and looks to be trending in the right direction.
