The Rangers are, among other teams, competing for an AL Wild Card spot. If you are looking for everyday players, Shin-Soo Choo is widely available.

The Texas Rangers have one of the best overall lineups. With speed guys bookending the batting order and the power guys in the middle, it’s no wonder the Rangers are competing for an American League Wild Card spot. If you are still in your league’s playoffs and need an everyday player, Shin-Soo Choo is someone to target.

Choo put up good numbers throughout the season. He has a .264/.367/.416 line with 18 home runs, 65 RBI and 84 runs. He also has 12 steals in 15 attempts with a 113:71 K:BB ratio. According to the ESPN Player Rater, Choo ranks No. 37 for the season and 21st over the last 30 days.

As good as all of that looks, he’s been even better over the last couple of weeks. Since Aug. 19, 16 games, Choo is hitting .344 with four home runs, 12 RBI, 14 runs and two steals. While his strikeout to walk ratio and OBP are poor, 18:1 and .364, respectively, he is still producing at the plate.

Choo has hit atop the Rangers order for most of the season. He has a combined 107 games hitting either first or second.

With Elvis Andrus, Joey Gallo and Adrian Beltre (when healthy) hitting behind him, he still gets plenty of opportunities to hit and score runs.

He went undratfed in ESPN leagues but has seen an uptick in ownership percentage over the last week, from 31.4 to 45.0 percent. Choo is one of four Rangers hitters on ESPN’s most added hitters in the last seven days.

The Rangers will play the rest of their games against American League teams, mostly the Seattle Mariners and Oakland A’s.

This gives Choo the opportunity to play either in the outfield or as the DH and not lose at-bats. That eligibility gives you some flexibility around roster construction.

With power and some speed still available, Choo is someone to add for an off-day fill in or as a utility player. It’s crunch time and you need to have the best players on your roster. There’s no need to keep anyone who is struggling at this point in the season, regardless of their name.
