Main’s Mavericks – Week 3 DraftKings NFL GPP Picks

Main’s Mavericks attempts to search out low-salary, low-ownership DraftKings NFL plays destined to beat their value. As a general rule for this article, I try to target players below $5,000. My goal is to pick low-priced players who I believe can exceed 4-5 times their value (EX: $5,000 player x 4 = 20 DK Pts). Most of my picks I will be using in DraftKings tournaments as boom-or-bust tournament punt options. Saving on these volatile plaers will allow you to pay-up for superstars when building that $1,000,000 lineup.

How I did last week:

Deshaun Watson 4,400 @ CIN – 17.70 (10th QB)

Alvin Kamara 3,500 vs NE – 8.40 (34th RB)

CJ Anderson 4,700 vs DAL – 33.40 (1st RB)

Robby Anderson 3,400 @ BUF – 4.80 (>50th WR)

Taylor Gabriel 4,000 vs GB – 4.10 (>50th WR)

Tavon Austin 3,500 @ TEN – 1.80 (>50th WR)

Charles Clay 3,000 @ CAR – 5.30 (29th TE)

CJ Anderson! What a week! He finally got his touchdowns and it paid off handsomely for anyone who jumped on that pick, finishing as the number 1 fantasy RB (priced outside the top 30 for week 2 RBs). We also saw solid days from Watson and Kamara, who gave you great value despite being priced at the bottom of their respective positions. Let’s see if I can actually get a WR to hit this week.

TAMPA, FL – SEPTEMBER 17: Quarterback Mike Glennon /

DraftKings NFL – The Picks!

QB:

Mike Glennon 4,700 vs PIT (32nd Priced QB)

Glennon looked downright pitiful for 45 minutes Sunday against the Bucs. His 4th quarter was more respectable and he finished the day with 301 yards and 1 touchdown, good for 16.04 DK points (courtesy of pro-football-reference.com). I foresee more garbage time heroics against another poor secondary.

RB:

Duke Johnson Jr. 4,200 @ IND (42th Priced RB)

Duke Johnson is Hue Jackson’s muse. The utility back lines up in the backfield, the slot, split out, behind center. He does it all. With a young QB at the helm and Hue’s creativity, I love the Duke this weekend against a Colts team that ranks in the bottom half of the league against fantasy running backs (fantasy.nfl.com).

More from FanSided

Darren Sproles 4,000 vs NYG (49th Priced RB)

Sproles lead the Eagles crowded backfield in snaps, carries, and fantasy points last week. NYG-men have given up 220 rushing yards to opposing running backs through 2 weeks (per fantasy.nfl.com). I love the matchup, and I love targeting pass-catching RBs on teams with young QBs. Wentz will rely heavily on the check downs this week against a stout Giant secondary.

WR:

Ryan Grant 3,500 vs OAK (80th Priced WR)

The total in the Oakland @ Washington game opened at 54, the highest total this week (per vegasinsider.com). When the sharps set a total that high, it tells me to load up on that game. Ryan Grant is a uber talented WR3, and should get looks in what should be a shootout.

Deonte Thompson 3,500 vs PIT (80th Priced WR)

Chicago’s receiving corps is terrible. That being said, Glennon loved Thompson in garbage time last week, amassing Chicago’s only touchdown. I assume garbage time is a forgone conclusion this week against Big Ben and the Steelers. I’ll bet on Thompson’s big play potential.

Adam Humphries 3,100 @ MIN (106th Priced WR)

If Xavier Rhodes locks down Mike Evans and the front 7 locks down TB rushing attack, then this may be my favorite exploit of the week. The 3rd year slot man is very capable of putting up big fantasy numbers, as we saw last year with 5 games eclipsing double-digit fantasy points (per ESPN.com). I would like to see Bradford starting before I go all in on this play, just because I think a competent Viking club favors TB passing the ball.

TE:

Julius Thomas 3,000 @ NYJ (22nd Priced TE)

Jets have given up 11/116/1 to TEs over there first 2 games (per fantasy.nfl.com). I would argue that Julius Thomas is a better player than Charles Clay and Jared Cook. Thomas was targeted only 3 times in last week’s win, but I do know that Jay loves his TEs. Great value and one I will exploit hard this week.
