Jay Cutler has played very poorly in two straight games, but he will remain the Miami Dolphins starting quarterback.

After a Week 3 game in which his team was shut out until the final play, Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said he was fed up with a “garbage offense.” Week 4 presented an opportunity to get right, in London against the New Orleans Saints. But it was not to be, as the Dolphins were shut out this time around in a 20-0 loss.

Jay Cutler has been at the center of Miami’s offensive struggles, going 46-for-72 for 384 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions over the last two games.

He also seemed to refuse to buy himself as a decoy, with no desire to even look like any sort of active participant, during a wildcat play against the Saints, in true Cutler fashion.

But after Sunday’s game, Gase quickly dismissed any chance of Cutler being benched.

When Ryan Tannehill went down with a torn ACL in early August, a lack of good options behind him drove the Dolphins to sign Cutler for $10 million and reunite him with Gase.

The results weren’t too bad in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers, in the Dolphins’ first game, but two straight bad games against what seemed to be talent-starved defenses have not been any sort of building blocks as Cutler gets fully acclimated to new teammates.

The Dolphins’ offensive flaws have not all been Cutler’s fault, as he’s been sacked seven times over the last two games and there has been no semblance of a running game.

But a 2-for-20 showing on third downs over that two-game span and six total points scored, puts the spotlight on the quarterback, followed closely by the head coach and offensive coordinator.

The Dolphins don’t get a bye after a London game to figure things out, and perhaps make some wholesale changes around Cutler. But they do have their first traditional home game of the season coming against the Tennessee Titans in Week 5, which can only help.
