DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 8
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays is back for Week 8. This is a fantasy football column dedicated to providing value plays with high upside to help you cash in on big prizes in DraftKings tournaments.
Welcome to Week 8 of DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays. Here you’ll find a handful of players from each position who are underpriced and poised to outperform their salary. These bargain plays are ideal candidates when constructing your lineups for DraftKings GPPs.
Week 8 has a Main Slate of 9 games now that bye weeks are in play. There are plenty of tournaments offering large top prizes. Make sure to secure a spot in the NFL Fantasy Football Millionaire and the Fantasy Football World Championship Qualifier.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays is a resource for evaluating players with the best chance of finishing the week with a high fantasy points per dollar performance. Not every pick is meant to be used in the same lineup. Use this column to select one or two bargain plays, which allow you to pay up for higher priced stars.
DraftKings has done a great job of pricing players this week, which greatly decreases the amount of value plays and good ones at that. Note that when you’re building your rosters this week there aren’t going to be too many spots to comfortably save money.
Let’s check out some bargain play quarterbacks.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 7 – Quarterbacks
Tyrod Taylor ($5,900) vs. OAK
Going back to the well again with Taylor this week. He was one of the top value quarterbacks last week and had his best game of the season with 20.02 DraftKings points at only $5,100. Taylor faces the Raiders this week who are ranked second to last in DVOA against the pass. The Bills receiving options aren’t the most talented, but LeSean McCoy‘s pass catching ability and Taylor’s threat on the ground should be enough at this price tag.
Andy Dalton ($5,700) vs. IND
Rostering Dalton certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. We’ve seen the Red Rifle have some miserable performances with a 2 DraftKing point game in the books already this season. On the flip side, Dalton has a ceiling of 30-plus DraftKings points when he gets going. With A.J. Green as his primary receiving weapon, there’s plenty of upside to be had. The Colts rank 30th in DVOA against the pass and have been getting burned all season long. This is a great spot for Dalton to outperform his price.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 7 – Running Backs
Joe Mixon ($4,700) vs. IND
I’ll be paying up at running back this week, but if you’re looking for value at the position, Mixon could be a viable play. He’s started to separate himself from Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill and has the talent to be a productive fantasy running back. The issue is that the Bengals haven’t committed to using him or any part of the running game. Mixon was running well last week against the Steelers in the first half before Marvin Lewis abandoned the run. Mixon has been vocal about wanting more opportunities; however, this squeaky wheel narrative could end up hurting his value.
Dion Lewis ($4,600) vs. LAC
Putting faith into a Patriots running back is a risk every week. Lewis looks to be healthy and is slowly taking over the lead back position from Mike Gillislee. Bill Belichick is the king off mid-game strategy changes, so Lewis’ role is never secure. The Chargers are a clear run funnel defense who have a dominant pass rush. While the Patriots aren’t afraid to throw against any team, they do game plan well against their opponent’s weaknesses. We could see Lewis get a healthy number of carries this week against the 27th ranked defense in DVOA vs. Rush. I feel better rostering Lewis this week at lower ownership than a chalky Joe Mixon.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 7 – Wide Receivers
Marquise Goodwin ($3,900) vs. PHI
The value at wide receiver is very limited this week, but if you need the savings, don’t overlook Goodwin. His quarterback situation isn’t ideal, but the 49ers are going to have to pass the ball in order to stay competitive. Over the past three games, Goodwin is averaging eight targets per game and has two games of at least 80 receiving yards. He has big play ability, which makes him an interesting tournament play this week.
Josh Doctson ($3,900) vs. DAL
Surprisingly, Doctson has gotten a lot of hype this week after a 6.9 DraftKings point outing last week. The numbers certainly haven’t been there to this point, but he is expected to take over as the starting “X” receiver ahead of Terrelle Pryor. As the starting wide receiver on a pass heavy offense, Doctson could pay off his $3,900 price tag.
Deonte Thompson ($3,700) vs. OAK
Thompson might be the most explosive receiver on a depleted Bills team at the moment. He finished last game with four receptions for 107 yards. Thompson faces a Raiders defense that has had a difficult time stopping much of anything. I expect Tyrod to have success through the air and Thompson could be a major part of that. He’s a viable GPP play this week.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 7 – Tight Ends
Jack Doyle ($3,500) vs. CIN
Perhaps the most consistent Colts offensive player, Doyle has seen at least five targets in every game since Week 2. Doyle has a decent matchup this week against the Bengals who rank 20th in DVOA against tight ends. If the Colts are going to keep up at all this week, they’re going to need to move the ball in the air. Doyle should see plenty of opportunities and has a good chance of finding the end zone. The Bengals have given up seven scores to opposing tight ends this year.

Nick O’Leary ($3,100) vs. OAK
I’m doubling down on O’Leary this week. He caught both of his two targets for 58 yards last week. Those aren’t huge numbers, but at least we know that O’Leary isn’t going to be stuck running dump down routes. The Raiders rank 25th in DVOA against the position and I think this game has a good chance of hitting the over on its projected total. On a week with limited value, O’Leary could be a nice salary saver.
DraftKings NFL Bargain Plays: Week 7 – Defense
Seahawks ($3,200) vs. HOU
The Legion of Boom hasn’t been as dominant as it once had been, but I think they have a good chance of chewing up Deshaun Watson this week. The Seahawks defense has been dominant against rookie quarterbacks in recent history. Watson has been impressive this season, but the Seahawks rank 7th in pass DVOA and 9th in rush DVOA. This is a cheap price for a Seattle defense that has been elite for the past few seasons.
