The Tennessee Titans outlast the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon in Week 9, 23-20. Here are all the highlights, the game recap and the final score.

It wasn’t easy, but the Tennessee Titans hang on to beat the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon 23-20 to stay atop the AFC South standings. Tennessee improves to 5-3 on the year, while Baltimore stumbles to 4-5 on the season.

The Titans would take a strong 16-6 lead into halftime. While the Ravens’ awesome kicker, Justin Tucker, would get Baltimore six points with this leg, Tennessee found paydirt twice in the first half. The first score came on a Rishard Matthews grab, the other came on a a one-yard run by Derrick Henry.

Kicker Ryan Succop would make a field goal, but would miss one of this two PATs in the first half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Baltimore started to come to life in the final frame. Though the Ravens outscored the Titans, 14-7 in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough for Baltimore to get a big road win in the AFC in Nashville.

Tennessee has the head-to-head tiebreaker over the rival Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South race. The Titans clobbered the Jaguars down in Jacksonville in Week 2. This race between these two rivals is getting very interesting.

As for the Ravens, they may just be the second best team in an awful AFC North division. Sure, the Pittsburgh Steelers look elite, but Baltimore, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns are all below .500 entering Week 10.

Tennessee is not a sexy team, but has shown an ability to win tight, low-scoring ball games. The Titans aren’t going to blow anybody out, but if their defense plays well, then quarterback Marcus Mariota has a chance to lead this team to victory on fall Sundays.

Maybe Baltimore should have thought about saving some of those points it wasted on the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football last week? It was a solid fourth quarter by the Ravens, but lackluster offensive execution in the first half ultimately did them in. Baltimore is quickly slipping out of the playoff picture in the AFC, while Tennessee is right in the middle of it all.

Three Stars

  1. Wesley Woodyard: Woodyard had a game-high 14 tackles, one solo, one for a loss of yardage and a pass deflection.
  2. Rishard Matthews: Matthews had four catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.
  3. Eric Weddle: Weddle had four tackles, all solo and an interception.
