ORLANDO, FL – DECEMBER 2: Head coach Scott Frost of the UCF Knights hoists the American Athletics Conference Trophy after winning the ACC Championship 62-55 against the Memphis Tigers at Spectrum Stadium on December 2, 2017 in Orlando, Florida. (Photo by Julio Aguilar/Getty Images) /

(12)Central Florida vs. (7)Auburn(-9.5) at Atlanta, GA(2)

Central Florida 12-0, 9-0 (1st AAC):

Wins: vs. Florida International(61-17), at Maryland(38-10), vs. Memphis(40-13), at Cincinnati(51-23), vs. East Carolina(63-21), at Navy(31-21), vs. Austin Peay(73-33), at SMU(31-24), vs. Connecticut(49-24), at Temple(45-19), vs. South Florida(42-49), vs. (20)Memphis(62-55)

Losses: N/A

Record vs. bowl teams: 7-0

When did we know that UCF was really good? I had a hunch after they beat a Maryland team that had just beaten Texas and was only down to their second string quarterback. It grew stronger after they blew out Memphis. Beating Navy and holding SMU to 24 points is fairly impressive, but what really good team have they played? The only ranked team they played was in the AAC Championship against Memphis. This is a team that put up gaudy numbers against suspect opponents for the most part.

Auburn 10-3, 7-2 (2nd SEC):

Wins: vs. Georgia Southern(41-7), vs. Mercer(24-10), at Missouri(51-14), vs. (24)Mississippi State(49-10), vs. Mississippi(44-23), at Arkansas(52-20), at Texas A&M(42-27), vs. (1)Georgia(40-17), vs. Louisiana-Monroe(42-14), vs. (1)Alabama(26-14)

Losses: at (3)Clemson(6-14), at LSU(23-27), vs. (6)Georgia(7-28)

Record vs. bowl teams: 5-3

It isn’t much of a stretch to say that Auburn is the best three loss team ever. Losing to a top three team on the road, I understand. Losing to LSU when you were up by 20….I don’t. Then they got the pants beat off of them by a Georgia team that they had beaten earlier in the year. However, they were beat up in the Alabama game, and were missing key personnel for the second duel with UGA. You know, if Auburn didn’t drop that game to LSU, they may still be in the playoff over Alabama.

Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham did a solid job leading the team once conference season got going. Auburn was a different team when Kerryon Johnson was healthy, which he will be for this game.

Prediction:

UCF has a lot of heart, but I don’t see much on that schedule. Auburn is tested, and has done well in most of those tests. As the LSU game showed though, they can lose to anyone. I do think UCF puts forth a good effort here, but I don’t see them winning outright. Against the spread is where it gets tricky. Give me UCF because I don’t see them losing by double digits.
