2018 BIG3 season preview: Analysis, projections and picks

7. Power (2017 Record: 4-4)
Power finished the season with a solid .500 record last season, and has a roster that lives up to its name, with strong inside presences like Chris “Birdman” Andersen and Corey Maggette. They also have Quentin Richardson to add crucial outside shooting. So, why pick them to finish in such a low spot? Well, it doesn’t help that co-captain Glen “Big Baby” Davis is currently facing up to seven years in prison on felony assault charges. Davis was supposed to be one this team’s leaders, but it’s hard to imagine he’ll be playing in the league now.
So, Power will likely be forced to find an adequate replacement, while also reeling from the news of one of their best players having his life unravel so quickly. This is still a reasonably talented roster, one with more than enough force to easily lead the league in dunks, but I have a hard time not imagining Power as a team in disarray, brought down by matters that go far beyond basketball. If we’re looking for a bright side, they probably had the best draft of any team in the league, as in addition to Birdman and Richardson, they also brought in Ryan Gomes. Bringing in three legitimate former NBA players is one draft is no small feat, and this team has a solid amount of talent overall. That being said, I can’t help but see the news about Davis being the dominant story around this team this season, and likely affecting their focus.
