DraftKings PGA: 2018 PGA Championship
DraftKings PGA: 2018 PGA Championship
How about that! Back-to-back weeks we are on the winner, but everyone else is too. Justin Thomas had to show up Dustin Johnson’s win at The RBC Canadian, beating one of the best fields of the year. Thomas will be popular again this week, as he is the defending champ of the PGA Championship. At Bridgestone JT gained over three strokes putting against the field. We will see if the putter can stay hot again this week in St. Louis.
Bellerive Country Club is a similar style of course to Firestone. You will again see tree-lined fairways, large greens, and long holes. The major differences from Firestone will be Bellerive’s thick fescue roughs that will penalize the inaccurate and the crazy-wet conditions that will favor ball-strikers. The 7,317 yard par-70 challenges the world’s best by many different means. Bombers will be challenged by the bending tree-lined fairways and fescue rough if a drive falls astray. Short-hitters will be forced to hit long irons instead of wedges into the large sloping greens, and will have no shot to reach the par-5’s in two. Time will tell whether Bellerive will play relatively easy or difficult, but early indications point to a winning score around 12-under.

PGA Championship – Picks
$11,400 Dustin Johnson
Johnson ranks in the top-10 in the field in all five categories that I am looking at this week. As a comparison, no other golfers ranked in the top-10 in four categories, and two other golfers ranked in the top-10 in three categories. DJ shook off a couple of average rounds at the Bridgestone and came back with a vengeance, shooting a combined 10-under on Saturday and Sunday to finish T3. He will try to keep that form flowing into Bellerive.
$9,000 Jason Day
Day’s week was opposite of Dustin Johnson’s. Day was out of the gate strong, sitting at 9-under after Thursday and Friday’s rounds. Then he faded on the weekend, finishing 7-under in a tie for 10th. I saw enough from Day to think that he deserves a roster spot this week. Day was controlling his wedges beautifully, and we all know how talented of a putter he is. If he can string together 4 consistent rounds this week, he will have a shot at the Wanamaker Trophy.
$8,600 Alexander Noren
It has been a while since I have played Alexander Noren with absolute confidence. This is one of those weeks. He was working his irons and flat stick at Firestone, and should feel very comfortable at Bellerive this week, setting up well for this course. I see Noren drastically outperforming his price and notching his 8th top-10 of the season.
PGA Championship – Values
$8,300 Phil Mickelson
The only thing that scares me about Phil is the heat. It is supposed to be in the 90’s this week at bellerive, and it seemed to me that the heat took it out of he and Tiger down the stretch at Firestone. Otherwise, Phil should fit here very well. He ranks 2nd on the tour in putting, 7th in scoring, and 11th in approach gained. $8,300 is too low for a player of Phil’s caliber. Phil has made the cut at each major, finishing T36 at The Masters T48 at the US Open, and T24 at The Open.

$6,900 Beau Hossler
Hossler has been playing incredible this year. This season he ranks 10th in putting and is top 50 in off-the-tee and scoring gained. Hossler will look to extend his streak of made cuts to 13 this week. My only quarrels with Hossler are that his approach game has been lacking, and he is shaping up to be a popular play this week in the DFS community.
Austin Cook $6,500
Cook is an ideal punt play this week. He has been playing well as of late, making the cut to a T28 at The Open and recording 2 top-10’s in his last 6 events. Also, he is starting to sure-up his approaches, the only part of his game that seemed to be really lacking. If he can strike the ball well this week, he will be in line for another made cut and drastically outperform his price.
