Last Minute Masters Research – The Course Horse

DraftKings Masters Millionaire Maker starts tomorrow morning! I have put together a list of 18 guys (listed in alphabetical order) who crush Augusta National. Usually course history is not a huge factor in my roster construction, but the Masters is a totally different ballgame. Augusta is a uniquely challenging tract, and there are certain guys who crush this course no matter current form. By integrating this course history research with your recent form models, you will have a good shot to hoist the million dollar prize this weekend.

Paul Casey – 8,800

In the last 5 years Casey has posted a respectable 6, T4, T6, MC, T38. Casey has made the cut in 8/11 tries at Augusta.

Fred Couples – 6,700

Freddy is playing in his 32nd Masters tournament and the 1992 Green Jacket winner can still hold his own. In his last 7 tries, Freddy has 6 top 20s and a missed cut. Although Couples has only missed the cut 3/32 tries, all three have been in the last 10 years.

Jason Day – 9,800

Day is a world-class player. One should expect results such as his 6/7 made cuts (WD in 2012) with 3 top 10s and never finishing worse than 28th. However, Day’s T2, WD, T3 start has been followed up with a T20, T28, T10, T22.

Rickie Fowler – 9,000

Fowler may not provide supreme win equity in a packed field like the Masters, but he does play this course well. Fowler has 6/7 made cuts with 3 top 15’s and a MC in his last 4 Masters.

Sergio Garcia – 8,600

Naming his first-born after the course should be enough, right? Sergio won last year, and has now made the cut in 8/9 Masters. Since 2012 Sergio has gone T12, T8, MC, T17, T34, 1.

Charlie Hoffman – 7,100

Hoffman has never finished worse than 29th in 4 tries at the Masters (2017-2011: T22, T29, T9, T27).

Dustin Johnson – 11,400

The number one player in the world was the favorite to win the Masters last year until some stairs got in his way. Johnson has made 6/7 cuts and has a T4, T6, MC, T13 in his last 4 appearances.

Matt Kuchar – 7,600

Kuch has not missed a cut in 8 straight Masters appearances. He has a phenomenal track record here, with 4 top 10 finishes in his last 6 tries (T4, T24, T46, T5, T8, T3).

Hideki Matsuyama – 8,400

Hideki has a T11, T7, 5 in his last 3 Masters. Before that, he made the cut twice as an amateur and missed the cut his 1st time as a pro. The lingering wrist injury should depress ownership this week.

Rory McIlroy – 9,900

8/9 made cuts and 4 straight top 10 finishes at Augusta sounds about right for the former world number 1. A Green Jacket will complete his career grand slam.

Phil Mickelson – 9,500

Phil has struggled lately here, but you cannot deny his superb track record.   22/25 made cuts, 3 victories, 1 runner up, 5 3rd place finishes, and 15/25 top 10’s. He has struggled at Augusta recently, finishing T22, MC, T2, MC, T54 in his last 5 appearances.

Ian Poulter – 7,600

11/12 made cuts, 3 top 10’s, and 7 top 25’s. Poulter won the Houston Open to earn an invite to Augusta, a tract where he finished T6 in 2015.

Justin Rose – 9,200

Rose crushes this course, yet he has never dawned the coveted Green Jacket. Rose has made 12/12 cuts and his worse finish was T39 in his first ever Masters. Rose’s 12 appearances from 2017-2003: 2, T10, T2, T14, T25, T8, T11, T20, T36, T5, T22, T39. That is the definition of a course horse!

Adam Scott – 8,000

Scott is another guy who knows his way around Augusta. Scott has made 8 straight cuts (14/16 total), winning the Green Jacket in 2013.  A T9 last year was his only top 10 since 3 straight top 10’s from 2011-2013.

Jordan Spieth – 10,400

Spieth has 4 trips to the Masters: T2, 1, T2, T11. That’s pretty good.

Jimmy Walker – 6,800

Walker also has 4 trips to the Masters: T8, T38, T29, T18. That’s pretty good for a near minimum salary guy.

Bubba Watson – 8,700

Bubba either demolishes the course or gets demolished by the course. He has won the Green Jacket twice, but has failed to finish better than T20 in his other 8/9 made cuts (MC, T37, T38, 1, T50, 1, T38, 42, T20).

Tiger Woods – 10,000

Woods has not played the Masters since 2015, but, as a pro, Tiger is 18/18 in made cuts. Tiger’s last Green Jacket came in 2005 (his 4th Masters victory). In 18 attempts, Tiger has 16 top 20’s (13 being top 10’s).
