DraftKings PGA: 2018 The Northern Trust Picks and Analysis
DraftKings PGA: 2018 The Northern Trust
The PGA Tour moves from Sedgefield, NC to Paramus, NJ this week for The Northern Trust and some more DraftKings PGA action. We are now officially in the FedEx Cup playoffs! The Wyndham Championship was fun. The scores were crazy low, including an incredible 59 by Brandt Snedeker en route to victory. Sergio Garcia just barely missed the playoffs, while Nick Taylor and Harris English vaulted themselves into the top-125 and a tour card. Who is ready to move on to the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs?
Ridgewood Country Club will host The Northern Trust (formerly the Barclays) for the 4th time, with 2008, 2010 and 2014 being the other years the tournament was held there. The 7,385 yard par-71 was conquered by Hunter Mahan (-14) in 2014, Matt Kuchar (-12) in 2010 and Vijay Singh in 2008. The Tillinghast designed course is a very difficult tract due to its length and the major-like rough. The fairways and greens are large, but you must keep the ball in the short stuff to be successful. That is why I will be focusing on accuracy off-the-tee and on approach for my builds this weeks.

DraftKings PGA – The Northern Trust – Picks
$10,700 Jason Day – 5th in FedEx Cup
If we are going solely off of course history and form, I am taking Jason Day. In 3 starts at this course Day has a T31 in 2008, a T5 in 2010, and a T2 in 2014. That is a nice tend. The form is not too shabby as well, finishing top-20 in his last 4 PGA Tour events (includes 2 majors). Day is the best putter on tour, and his approaches have been trending in the right direction since a missed cut at the US Open.
$9,900 Justin Rose – 4th in FedEx Cup
Rose pops in my model this week. The course appears to be tailored for his style of play. The health is a burden after withdrawing from the WGC Bridgestone 3 weeks ago, but a strong T19 at the PGA Championship alleviates some of the concern. Rose has possibly been the most consistent golfer on the Tour this year. He sits 4th in the FedEx Cup standings and is my favorite to win the whole thing.
$8,800 Hideki Matsuyama – 76th in FedEx Cup
It seemed to me that Matsuyama found something at the Wyndham Championship. A 3rd round 64 and 4th round 65 propelled Hideki to a T11 shooting a combined 14-under. This course should set up well for Matsuyama’s style of play. An excellent ball-striker and someone who excels on fast greens. Matsuyama has not been his 2016-17 version since battling a wrist injury earlier this year, but I like Matsuyama to continue his solid form this week.
DraftKings PGA – The Northern Trust – Values
$7,600 Ian Poulter – 34th in FedEx Cup
My model loves Poulter this week. He ranks in the top-25 on the tour in every category that I weighted for The Northern Trust. The form has been excellent, carding 8 top-25’s while making 11 of his last 12 PGA Tour cuts. Poulter missed the cut in 2014, but finished T15 at this tournament in 2010.

$7,000 Keegan Bradley – 49th in FedEx Cup
Bradley is playing some of the most consistent golf of his career. In 24 PGA Tour events, Bradley has only 3 missed cuts. He is coming off of a 4th at the RBC Canadian and a T42 at the PGA Championship, and now heads to the familiar East Coast, growing up in Vermont and attending St. John’s University. Per usual, Bradley rates out extremely well in my model in everything except for putting. If he can get the flat-stick working, watch out.
$6,900 Kevin Streelman – 67th in FedEx Cup
Streelman is another golfer that popped in my model and has narrative surrounding this course. Streelman’s parents grew up in the area and his Grandparents are buried adjacent to the 7th hole. His course history is solid, boasting a T3 finish in 2010 and T46 in 2014. The scariness comes in the form of 2 straight missed cuts at the Barracuda and PGA Championship. I will take that depressed price and ownership this week though, I am all-in on Streelman.
