2018 FedEx Cup Playoffs

Introduction

The 2018 FedEx Cup Playoffs start this Thursday with The Northern Trust. PGA Tour golfers have been battling for FedEx cup points throughout the first 42 events of the golf calendar, and now only 4 events remain. The remaining 4 events offer 4 times the points as regular season events, and will shell out 32 million dollars in purse (8 million per tournament). Another 35 million dollars  will be awarded as bonuses for the top-30 players at the end of the playoffs. You better believe these guys will give everything they have the final 4 weeks of the season.

How The FedEx Cup works

During the PGA Tour season, golfers had a chance to win FedEx Cup points at each PGA Tour event. The winner of each regular season PGA Tour golf tournament won 500 points. 600 points were awarded to the winners of the major tournaments and The Players Championship. 550 points were awarded to the winners of the WGC events. 300 points were awarded to the winners of tournaments played the same week as majors and WGC events.

After 42 tournaments, the 125 golfers with the most FedEx Cup points will advance to the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The Northern Trust is the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and will be held at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey. 2,000 points will be awarded to the winner of this event. Only the top 100 golfers after The Northern Trust will advance to the Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston the following week. Similar to The Northern Trust, the winner of the Dell Technologies Championship will be awarded 2,000 points. The top 70 golfers based on FedEx Cup points will advance to the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. Again, 2,000 points will be awarded to the winner of this event.

The final progressive cut is to 30 players after the BMW Championship. The remaining 30 golfers will end their seasons in Atlanta, Georgia at East Lake Golf Club for the Tour Championship. These 30 golfers will be competing for another 8 million dollar purse, FedEx Cup points, and 35 million dollars worth of bonus money (the top 150 FedEx Cup golfers will earn a share of the 35 million dollar pot). 10 million dollars will be awarded to the winner of the FedEx Cup.
