DraftKings PGA: 2018 BMW Championship Picks, Analysis
DraftKings PGA: 2018 BMW Championship
The FedEx Cup moves from Boston to Philly this week for the BMW Championship and some more DraftKings PGA action. We are now in the 3rd leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs and we only have one champion. Bryson DeChambeau could not be caught at The Northern Trust or the Dell Technologies! He will own the #1 seed for the Tour Championship at East Lake. The top-70 in the FedEx Cup advance to the BMW Championship, and then only the top 30 will advance to the Tour Championship.
Aronimink Golf Club will host the BMW Championship for the 1st time. The golf course last hosted a PGA event in 2010 and 2011. Justin Rose and Nick Watney have each hoisted the trophy at Aronimink (At&T National). The 7,237 yard par-70 should be quite a test for these elite golfers, as the winning scores were only -10 in 2010 and -13 in 2011. The Donald Ross designed course just completed a Gil Hanse renovation, and now boasts 176 bunkers (70 in 2011), wider fairways, and larger greens. The course will continue to play very difficult due to its length and the major-like rough. The fairways and greens are large, but you must keep the ball in the short stuff to be successful. That is why I will be focusing on accuracy off-the-tee and on approach for my builds this weeks.
Key Stats
The keys stats that I am focusing on this week for The Northern Trust DraftKings PGA GPP contests:

2018 BMW Championship – Picks
$11,200 Justin Rose – 3rd in FedEx Cup
Rose pops in my model this week. The course appears to be tailored for his style of play. His health is still a burden after withdrawing from the WGC Bridgestone and missing the cut at The Northern Trust. Rose finished off the Dell Technologies with a 2nd place finish and he is the only player in the field to have won at Aronimink (2010 At&T National). Rose has possibly been the most consistent golfer on the Tour this year. He sits 3rd in the FedEx Cup standings and is my favorite to win the whole thing.
$9,700 Hideki Matsuyama – 28th in FedEx Cup
Matsuyama found something at the Wyndham Championship and you better play him until he loses what he found. A win is coming soon, I know you see it. T11 at Wyndham, T15 at The Northern Trust, and a T4 at the Dell Technologies. Hopefully the price jump scares people away, because Hideki is on a heater! This course should set up well for Matsuyama’s style of play, being a ball-strikers course.
$9,000 Rickie Fowler – 26th in FedEx Cup
When other people are off of a play, that is usually the time to jump on. Fowler is a risky play due to an oblique injury that has held him out of the first two FedEx Cup events, but I am all in if Rickie decides to break out the bag. Fowler keeps the ball in the fairway, strikes it well on approach, and is an excellent putter. If Rose is the prototypical golfer that I am targeting this week, Fowler is a close 2nd.
2018 BMW Championship – Values
$8,000 Billy Horschel – 15th in FedEx Cup
Horschel carries quite a bit of risk after withdrawing in the first round of the Dell Technologies due to sinus issues. The guy was hot fire the entire month of August, and the course fit is decent. I am a sucker for the low-ownership (<5%) we will see this week.
$7,100 Ian Poulter – 45th in FedEx Cup
My model loves Poulter this week. He ranks in the top-30 on the tour in every category that I weighted. The missed cut at the Dell Technologies was only his 2nd missed cut in his last 13 events. I like a bounce back week for Poulter, in celebration of Poulter making the Ryder Cup team.
$6,700 Austin Cook – 42nd in FedEx Cup
Cook is the type of golfer that I am targeting this week. Every drive hits the fairway, his approaches are trending, and his putting/short game is excellent. Cook might be a rookie, but he is handling the FedEx Cup like a veteran. He made the cut at The Northern Trust and at the Dell Technologies, and this course suits his skill set way better than both of those tracts. At dirt ownership, Cook is a great roster.
