DraftKings PGA: FedEx Cup

The Northern Trust starting Thursday means that the FedEx Cup is upon us! The PGA Tour’s best golfers will compete the next four weeks for the 35 million dollar prize. This week the top 125 golfers have qualified for The Northern Trust. Rory McIlroy, Henrick Stenson and Patrick Rodgers have elected to sit out this week, and Rickie Fowler is resting due to injury. Only the top 100 golfers will advance to the Dell Technologies Championship.

But enough about the FedEx Cup Playoffs! You want to know which golfers are going to garner the highest ownership for The Northern Trust. While we all know this is not an exact science, I have done fairly decent with ownership projections this year. Just know, even though I give a percentage, use that percentage as a qualitative guideline rather than an exact value. But I’m confident it will be close for this week’s DraftKings $600K tournament.

The Northern Trust – Low-Ownership Sleepers

$7,600  Kevin Na (5-8%)

Despite his solid recent form, Na has been serially under-owned. With so many good golfers in the 7K range, Na will be underappreciated once again. Kevin Na is 1 of 8 golfers in this field to make all 3 cuts at this course. Na finished T9 in 2014, and he is the type of ball-striker and putter that I am specifically looking for. The one thing that scares me is whether he can keep enough drives in the short stuff to showcase his approach game.

$6,900 Kevin Streelman (5-8%)

Kevin Streelman is another golfer who has made all 3 cuts at this course. I am hoping his ownership and price are depressed this week because Streelman has missed 2 straight cuts at the Barracuda and PGA Championship. What I am attracted to is his course history, boasting a T3 finish in 2010 and T46 in 2014. Streelman’s parents also grew up in the area and his Grandparents are buried adjacent to the 7th hole, so there is intriguing narrative surrounding his start.

$6,800 Austin Cook (2-5%)

Cook is the type of golfer that I am targeting this week. Every drive hits the fairway, his approaches are trending, and his putting/short game is excellent. I do not see a scenario where Cook misses the cut (which I realize is probably jinxing him). Cook’s last 3 events have mirrored this field and he has made the cut. In those tournaments, the course did not suit his skillset one bit. This kid may be a rookie, but he grinds harder than Jim Furyk. At dirt ownership, Cook is a great roster.
