It was a rough weekend no matter what. I at least hoped Oklahoma would put up a fight. Despite Alabama not covering, Oklahoma was never really in that game.
For the rest of the bowls, you will get my picks against the spread and point wagers just like I did all season long. I had a solid regular season, but I can make it look a whole lot better with a strong bowl season!

Michigan State vs. Oregon(-1.5) at Santa Clara, CA(5):
Michigan State 7-5, 4-4(4th Big Ten(14) East)
Wins: vs. Utah State(38-31), at Indiana(35-21), vs. Central Michigan(31-20), at Penn State(21-17), vs Purdue(23-13), at Maryland(24-3), vs. Rutgers(14-10)
Losses: at Arizona State(13-16), vs. Northwestern(19-29), vs. Michigan(7-21), vs. Ohio State(6-26), at Nebraska(6-9)
Record vs. bowl teams: 3-4
Michigan State may have had the best defense in the country. The only team that topped 30 points on them was Utah State in the opener. Two teams were held under 10 points while one was held to exactly ten.
An elite defense usually implies an offense that can at least keep them off the field. That was not the case here. Michigan State’s offense was one of the worst in a power five conference. Horrible QB play and injuries to several running backs turned this into a lost season for Sparty.
Oregon 8-4, 5-4(4th Pac 12 North):
Wins: vs. Bowling Green(58-24), vs. Portland State(62-14), vs. San Jose State(35-22), at California(42-24), vs. Washington(30-27), vs. UCLA(42-21), vs. Arizona State(31-29), at Oregon State(55-15)
Losses: vs. Stanford(31-38), at Washington State(20-34), at Arizona(15-44), at Utah(25-32)
Record vs. bowl teams: 3-3
This Oregon team didn’t have the elite offense of years past. That’s not to say that they weren’t good. Oregon put up at least 30 points in all but three games. However, they lacked the stable of athletes of prior seasons. CJ Verdell is a very good back, but there isn’t a lot behind that.
The big story here is that Justin Herbert will in fact start in the bowl game. Not only that, but he will return for his senior year in 2019. That is very unusual in this day and age and gives Oregon a lot of continuity heading into the post season.
Prediction:
With Justin Payne declaring for the draft, Michigan State is going to be a little thin in the secondary, a place that you don’t want to be thin against Oregon. On the other side of the ball, it doesn’t really matter how bad the other defense is. A maligned Nebraska defense held Michigan State to just six points. Sparty may hit double digits here, but it wont be nearly enough to keep up with Oregon.
Pick: Oregon
