“The Barber” is the final inductee for the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame

Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake has been named as the final member of the class of 2019 for this years WWE Hall of Fame. He joins the likes of Torrie Wilson, Harlem Heat, the Hart Foundation, and D-Generation X for this year’s ceremony.

Ed Leslie was just a kid with a dream of someday becoming a professional wrestler. Alongside his good friend Terry Bollea (Hulk Hogan) the two would work the territories up and down the east coast hoping to some day make it big in the sport. Leslie learned everything he could from veterans like Bob Armstrong and Toru Tanaka to craft his wrestling style.

In 1984, Leslie got his shot at the big time when he signed full-time with the WWE (then the World Wrestling Federation) where he would be called Brutus Beefcake. But long before he’d be known as “the Barber,” he and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Greg “The Hammer” Valentine were paired up as a heel tag team, and in August 1985 The Dream Team captured the World Tag Team Titles from The British Bulldogs.

Just a few years later, The Dream Team would have a falling out at WrestleMania III. After Valentine and manager Johnny Valiant left Beefcake laying, he would return to the ring and help “Rowdy” Roddy Piper during a hair vs. hair match against Adrian Adonis. At the conclusions of the match it would be Beefcake shearing Adonis’ trademark platinum locks. After that moment he would become known as “The Barbe,r” and it catapulted him into programs with legendary names such as “Macho Man” Randy Savage, “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase and fellow 2019 Hall of Fame inductee The Honky Tonk Man.

In 1990, Leslie’s career came to a halt after a parasailing accident crushed the bones in his face. Doctors would tell him that he was lucky to be alive. Beefcake would return to wrestling as the host of his own interview segment “The Barber Shop,” which became the scene for one of the most infamous break-ups in WWE history when Shawn Michaels tossed his then-tag team partner Marty Jannetty through the Barber Shop window thus ending The Rockers.

Beefcake would return to the ring a few times to team with Hogan, and then later face him in WCW before finally retiring. But the cuttin’ and struttin’ Beefcake did during his time as The Barber was always remembered fondly by fans, and now his legacy will be solidified with his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
