A weekly recap of the hit YouTube series Being the Elite, featuring the stars of AEW like the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Cody and others.

Being the Elite opens up this week with someone watching a clip from AEW Double or Nothing on their cell phone while Cody speaks to his brother, Dustin Rhodes. The camera pans out and it turns out to be Matt Jackson who rolls his eyes at it, clearly setting up their tag team match at Fight for the Fallen in a few weeks.

After the 8-bit opening, we go to the Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler traveling to Mexico so the former can defend their AAA World Tag Team titles against the Lucha Bros. It’s your typical Being the Elite travel montage. Nothing we really haven’t seen before. But they are always well done.

The Bucks end up in a pool at their hotel in Mexico and they talk about how All Out sold out in just 15 minutes. It really can’t be overstated what a great accomplishment this is for AEW. Matt and Nick are clearly humbled by all of the fan support and it’s really cool to see just how passionate they are about this company.

We go to E3 in Los Angeles as Kenny Omega is still fuming about how Double or Nothing ended. He’s hoping video games and the convention itself can put him in a better mood. This basically goes into a montage of highlights from Omega’s trip to E3. There’s really nothing of note here besides a name drop of New Day’s Xavier Woods (Austin Creed) and some jokes about the lineup for Fyter Fest. It’s just cool to see Omega in his element when it’s not a wrestling ring.

The Bucks try to do a bit about Coca-Cola coffee; they thought it was going to be terrible and they wanted to do a spit take of it. But they all ended up liking it. It was amusing and it certainly sounds like an interesting beverage.

Afterward, we have Christopher Daniels having a conversation with his dog about facing CIMA at Fyter Fest. Anyone who has pets has probably had a similar interaction with their dog or cat at one time or another. Daniels’ comedic timing is perfect as usual, and consistently a highlight every time he appears on the show.

From there, we are taken to AAA for the rest of this episode of Being the Elite. We are shown around the arena, inside and out, and then head into the locker room, where Cutler runs into Sammy G. He tells Cutler how awesome his two contracts are with AEW. Cutler thanked him and said that some people have told him that it made them cry, which then sends Sammy G into his typical self, telling him that a real man wouldn’t have cried but it’s great that he could. Cutler takes it all in stride and leaves as Sammy G gets one more dig in. I guess this could be a potential match at Fyter Fest?

We go to the BTE Mailbag segment, this week featuring Nick of the Young Bucks. A viewer asks that since they are signed to AEW, which venue will they miss performing in the most. He says the answer is easy, and talks about Reseda for PWG, which is definitely an historic venue for that company over the last several years. We are pretty sure that is where Adam Cole “died” on an earlier episode of Being the Elite a few years back. Matt then answers a question about spray tan, and there’s nothing really to talk about for the remainder of the segment.

Next, Cutler arrives in the Young Bucks’ locker room and clearly he’s there to tell them about Sammy G but before he could get it out, Sammy G actually shows up and invades the conversation which makes Cutler leave. He asks the Bucks why they gave Cutler a contract and before they could answer, he says that he gets it because every company needs “a job guy.” He tells the Bucks they had a great match tonight — he didn’t see it, but he heard it, and it sounded great. He left and the Bucks looked at each other in disgust. They hadn’t even wrestled their match yet that evening.

We go to another locker room where Taya Valkyrie is talking to Sonny Kiss, which was really only set-up to have Luchasaurus walk by and say hello with Jungle Boy on his shoulders. While a throwaway spot, they clearly wanted an excuse to get Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus back on the show again this week after they’ve had great success with them in weeks prior.

They take up to the final moments of the match between the Young Bucks and the Lucha Bros in AAA where Pentagon pins Matt to regain the AAA World Tag Team titles. The crowd loses its mind and it was a great moment. It was definitely the right call to switch the titles back here, and the crowd reaction alone was well worth it. Backstage, the Bucks are approached by Cutler again but the Bucks aren’t in the mood this time, and walk right past him leaving him by himself.

We go to the Lucha Bros cutting another promo in Spanish. After our incorrect report last week we aren’t even going to try to decipher it this go around. It was announced that the Laredo Kid, not LA Park will be their tag team partner at Fyter Fest. Clearly, “LA” at the beginning screwed up our report and we apologize for the error.

But that wraps up this week’s edition of Being the Elite. It wasn’t one of their strongest episodes overall, but not every week can be a home run. What are your thoughts on Laredo Kid at Fyter Fest? Did you have a favorite part of this week’s episode? Sound off in the comments section below!
