Haskell Garrett has spoken out after getting shot.

Ryan Day and Ohio State were dealt with some seriously shocking news when defensive tackle Haskell Garrett was hospitalized after being shot in the face last Sunday. Nervous Buckeye fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as Garrett not only survived the shooting but remains in good spirits several days after the fact.

Garrett released his first statement since getting shot via his Twitter account. After thanking God for his protection, Garrett thanked the Columbus Police Department and EMTs for helping him recover. Garrett himself expects to make a full recovery, punctuating his statement with a “Go Bucks” for good measure.

Haskell Garrett intervened during a heated argument between two strangers

Garrett, a backup lineman who recorded a career-high 10 tackles during his junior season in 2019, tried to break up an argument between an unnamed man and woman near campus. When Garrett tried to intervene, a gun was pulled and he was shot through both of his cheeks. While Columbus police have interviewed two other people on the scene, including Buckeye linebacker Pete Werner, no suspects have been named and no official charges have been filed.

While his injury and the lack of a Big Ten season have made it difficult to project a timeline for him to return to the field, the Buckeyes will undoubtedly welcome him back with open arms if he gets medically cleared to return to Ohio State’s deep defensive line rotation.

Garrett’s bravery might’ve to result in his injury, but it confirmed that Garrett is a genuinely good person that was willing to intervene in a dangerous situation to help a woman he didn’t know. Hopefully, his wound heals up and he can resume his playing career with the Buckeyes as soon as possible.
