Haskell Garrett is in stable condition, per Columbus PD, after a shooting near campus

Garrett is a rising senior for the Ohio State football team, and was expected to play a role on the Buckeyes defensive line this coming season — assuming there is one at all. First, however, he’s dealing with more pressing health circumstances. The 22-year-old was shot at an apartment around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. When Columbus PD arrived at the scene, they found Garrett, as well as one bullet shell casing.

There was blood in the apartment, as well as on the street, but there are no reports of a confirmed shooter at this time. Garrett was taken to Wexner Medical Center, which resides on Ohio State’s main campus. He was treated for what police described as a “through and through” wound, and is in stable condition.

In Ohio State’s defensive line, Garrett doesn’t put up gaudy stats, instead serving as a stopgap of sorts for opposing Big Ten rushing attacks. Last season he played in six games, his most as a collegiate athlete. He’s a former 4-star recruit out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Garrett was expected to start for OSU before the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the season, and still might do so given current plans to move up a proposed spring campaign.

Police have yet to identify a suspect in Garrett’s shooting, or a possible motive. We’ll have more information when it becomes available to the media.
