The Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons will be looking to leave Sunday afternoon with their first win of the season.
The Dallas Cowboys were expected to start off the 2020 NFL season with a huge win to earn them the top spot in the NFC East standings. But last week, they were shocked by the Los Angeles Rams in the very first game at SoFi Stadium in the shadows of Hollywood. As for the Atlanta Falcons, they expectedly lost to the favored Seattle Seahawks.
This Sunday, both squads will look to earn their very first victories of the season, inside the monstrous AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
What to watch for in Cowboys-Falcons matchup
The Cowboys didn’t walk out of Los Angeles unscathed. Starting tight end Blake Jarwin, who was expected to take a huge leap after Jason Witten signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, tore his ACL during the contest, while linebackers Leighton Vander Esch and Sean Lee are out for an extended period of time with a broken collarbone and groin injury, respectively.
Dallas will look to take advantage of Atlanta’s porous defense that surrendered 322 passing yards and four touchdowns to Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. The Cowboys should have a field day on Sunday, but starting left tackle Tyron Smith is a game-time decision with a neck injury suffered in team practice on Thursday.
Even though the Falcons were beaten by the Seahawks, they showed that their offense is still one of the best in the league. Quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 450 yards against Seattle’s defense, with receivers Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage all accumulating over 100 yards. On Sunday, they face a Cowboys defense that surrendered 269 passing yards to Rams quarterback Jared Goff.
Expect Falcons running back Todd Gurley to have a bit of a career resurgence. Last week, he recorded 56 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. He faces a Cowboys running defense that allowed Malcom Brown to rush all over them for 79 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.
