Notre Dame came down hard on students who stormed the field after beating Clemson.

Notre Dame fans experienced the full spectrum of human emotions after taking down a Trevor Lawrence-less Clemson in South Bend. Just seconds after the upset was officially finalized and the Irish moved into pole position in the ACC, students in attendance through caution and coronavirus safety protocols to the wind and stormed the field, which could lead to an explosion in COVID-19 positive tests.

Notre Dame president Rev. John Jenkins dropped the hammer on the student body for this stunt, even going so far as to put holds on registration for students that do not show up to requested COVID-19 tests.

The school didn’t stop at registration holds, as students can also lose priority status for registration by trying to escape testing. Furthermore, no students are permitted to leave South Bend until the results of their tests have come in. Anyone who does so, as will anyone who was found to have been at a gathering on or off-campus that didn’t conform to COVID-19 regulations, will also lose registration status.

“Our football team showed us how to finish strong on Saturday night.,” Jenkins said in his statement. “Please finish this semester strong by wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance, washing your hands, and completing your daily health check.”

Jenkins previously caught the coronavirus after attending the White House superspreader event for Amy Coney Barrett where he was photographed not wearing a mask or social distancing.

Some might think that it’s a bit unjust to place a burden on the entire student body for the actions of a few hundred rogue students that disregarded the rules, but this might be the only way to prevent an outbreak on campus. With some of the country’s best teams currently struggling to finish out the remainder of the schedule, Notre Dame is trying their hardest to make sure they don’t have any superspreader events in South Bend.
