Notre Dame football fans stormed the field after upsetting No. 1 Clemson in double-overtime and forgot about social distancing in a moment of jubilation.

So much for social distancing, huh?

For the No. 4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, they had reason to celebrate after upsetting No. 1 Clemson. This was Clemson’s first regular-season loss since falling to the Syracuse Orange on Oct. 13, 2017. What a win for the Irish. But was throwing caution to the side as the coronavirus rages on the smartest decision? Thousands of fans stormed the field in celebration, so hopefully, no one gets sick.

So much for social distancing amid a raging coronavirus pandemic

Even LeBron James was stunned to see that fans were storming the field as the coronavirus is raging and fans aren’t even allowed at most stadiums across the country.

The global pandemic is not getting any better. We are in the midst of the third wave and it is compounding with flu season. While it is unseasonably warm in the Midwest in early November, coronavirus cases are through the roof. But with Joe Biden winning the Presidency and Notre Dame upsetting Clemson at home, you only live once, so the student body stormed the field.

LeBron James may not understand why the Notre Dame faithful did what they did in South Bend, but we have seen crazier things happen before in sports. For now, the Golden Domers can feel good they will be a top-two team in the country, while Clemson probably drops down to No. 4. They are sure to meet in the ACC Championship game in Charlotte in a few weeks anyway.

Even in the midst of a global pandemic, some times your emotions get the best of you.
