Trevor Lawrence will miss Clemson’s game vs. Notre Dame.

Clemson will be without quarterback Trevor Lawrence vs. Notre Dame next Saturday, Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney said after the Tigers win over Boston College.

Lawrence tested positive for COVID-19 with the news coming out Thursday. Lawrence reported having mild symptoms as he battles the coronavirus that kept him from playing Boston College and now against Notre Dame on Nov. 7, a game with big playoff implications.

ACC protocols state a player with a positive test must be in a 10-day isolation period before returning. If a player has symptoms, as Lawrence does, the 10-day countdown begins at the onset of symptoms. But Lawrence will be out due to cardiac testing.

This will remove any questions and distractions about his availability in the lead-up to the game and will allow Clemson to focus on beating Notre Dame.

Clemson won’t have Trevor Lawrence vs. Notre Dame

Clemson started true freshman D.J. Uiagalelei with Lawrence and the former five-star recruit looked as good as advertised in his first career start.

Uiagalaleli completed 30-of-41 passes for 342 yards and two touchdowns and added another 42 yards on the ground and a 30-yard rushing touchdown. His big arm and athleticism have elicited comparisons to Cam Newton and Ben Roethlisberger during his recruitment and early Clemson career.

Beyond the box score numbers, what was really impressive was how he kept his composure even as Clemson fell behind by 18 points in the first half. He led the Tigers to a comeback win and now he’ll try to follow that up with a win vs. No. 4 Notre Dame in what could be a preview of the ACC Championship Game.
