The former Dallas Cowboy wideout is getting a second chance with the Baltimore Ravens this weekend.

Back in late October, the Baltimore Ravens decided to take a shot on former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant by signing him to their practice squad. Two weeks ago, Bryant played in his first NFL game since Dec. of 2017, but was limited to a handful of snaps in Baltimore’s 24-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts. After that, Bryant was sent back to the practice squad, but that stint is officially over.

On Saturday, the Ravens activated Bryant off the practice squad, making him active for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Bryant’s second shot in 2020

In his debut two weeks ago, Bryant ran just one route in two snaps, where he wasn’t targeted by quarterback Lamar Jackson. One week later, Bryant sat out as the Ravens offense struggled in their 23-17 loss to the New England Patriots. With their team falling into a tie with the Cleveland Browns for second-place in the AFC North, the Ravens decided to give Bryant another opportunity.

Baltimore needs all the help they can get on offense. Entering this weekend against the Titans, the Ravens’ have recorded the third-fewest receiving yards per game (198.4) and second-fewest receptions (160). It certainly doesn’t help that Jackson admitted that defenses are calling out Baltimore’s plays prior to snapping the ball. Luckily, they do face a Tennessee defense that has allowed the fifth-most receiving yards per game (287.3). That could bode well not only for Bryant, but Jackson as well.

The Ravens are in a difficult position following this game, as Bryant can’t be reverted back to the practice squad. So, if the team wants to use him again this season, they’ll have rip up his practice squad deal and sign him to an NFL contract.

Bryant will look to make that decision easy for them this weekend, and that will only happen if he shows out and puts up quality production.
