Miami football: Canes add transfer receiver Charleston Rambo from Oklahoma
By Mike Luciano
Charleston Rambo is leaving Norman for Miami in a huge blow to the Sooners.
While Oklahoma has become a quarterback factory of late, they have earned just as much praise for their ability to develop elite talent at running back and wide receiver. Unfortunately for the Sooners, one of their better receivers over the last three years will not be back in 2021, as Charleston Rambo is trading in Norman for the bright lights of South Beach.
Rambo confirmed that he has played his final down in a Sooner uniform, announcing that he is joining Miami, instantly staking his claim to the WR1 role with the Hurricanes.
Charleston Rambo has the speed to be a huge asset for D’Eriq King at Miami
Rambo’s finest season came with Jalen Hurts under center in 2019, as he caught 43 passes for 743 yards and seven touchdowns. Rambo didn’t have the same chemistry with Spencer Rattler last season, as he caught just 26 passes in nine games.
While offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee helped King have one of the best seasons of his career by turning him into an accurate short passer, the Hurricanes need that one burner that can open up the passing game down the field. Rambo has the ability to step right into Lashlee’s attack and become a lethal yards-after-catch receiver in addition to a burner that can go long.
Rambo might not have the same statistical success that other Oklahoma receivers have had of late, but his speed was invaluable to Lincoln Riley’s attack over the last few seasons. If Rambo keeps playing well next to King in Miami, the NFL might be very interested in his services as a deep threat.
