Spencer Rattler balled out on Wednesday night in the Cotton Bowl, and didn’t just let his play do the talking.

Rattler and the Oklahoma Sooners ended their season on an eight-game winning streak, and showed us all why they’re likely to enter the 2021 league year among the favorites to make the College Football Playoff. While some early-season defeats derailed their 2020 campaign, paired with the usual COVID-19 setbacks, Rattler himself made strides after some duds to begin the year.

The soon-to-be sophomore finished the season with 28 rushing touchdowns paired with six scores on the ground. Down the stretch, he limited his turnover output with just three interceptions in his final eight games, becoming the quarterback Lincoln Riley knew he could be as a five-star talent out of Phoenix, AZ.

With a difficult season finally behind them, Rattler and the Sooners went out on a high note

Rattler, of course, is taking a shot at Dan Mullen, who made his own excuses after taking a 30-point beating at the hands of Oklahoma.

“I kind of viewed — I don’t know, maybe this is wrong — that wasn’t the 2020 football team that you saw,” Mullen said postgame. “There were 25 guys missing off the 2020 football team out there tonight. That was kind of a kick-start for us for the future, an opportunity for the young guys to play.”

2020 football team or not, Riley and the Sooners ran all over Florida’s defense to the tune of 435 yards and three touchdowns. Add in three scores through the air and a pedestrian 249-yard output, and Oklahoma had over 650 yards of offense. Did COVID-19 prevent the coaches from preparing for OU’s offense, as well?

Rattler’s jest is all in good fun, but perhaps just another reminder that the gap between the SEC and everybody else isn’t so wide after all, or in the case of the Cotton Bowl, completely fabricated.
