Hawks fans ruthlessly chant ‘overrated’ during Julius Randle free throws (Video)
Julius Randle is struggling so far in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, and Atlanta Hawks fans aren’t shy about letting him know.
Julius Randle has struggled profoundly in the first playoff series of his NBA career. He averaged just 15.0 points per game and shot less than 30 percent from the field in the New York Knicks‘ first two games against the Atlanta Hawks — and that was within the friendly confines of Madison Square Garden.
The series moved south to Atlanta for Game 3 on Friday night, and Hawks fans are far less encouraging. When Randle stepped up to shoot his free throws, the crowd at State Farm Arena kindly reminded him what they really think: the NBA’s Most Improved Player is overrated.
He could hardly buy a basket, starting the game 1-for-12 from the field, and NBA Twitter roasted him for it. But it’s worth noting that Randle was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe through the first three quarters, despite the crowd’s best efforts.
Hawks fans relentless towards Randle
It’s not lost on Hawks fans — or Knicks fans, for that matter — that at one point in the third quarter Randle was just 2-for-13.
It’s never a good sign when a basketball player has a shooting percentage that looks like a batting average, and a bad one at that.
If the Knicks want to salvage this series, they’re going to need their lone All-Star to start playing like one.
