Is there any better way to find out you’ve won an NBA award than to have your 4-year-old son make a special delivery during practice?

Randle’s award comes after he led the Knicks to a 41-31 record and their first playoff appearance since 2013. The former SEC Rookie of the Year (2014) recorded numerous career-highs this year, averaging 24.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists while logging a league-leading 37.6 minutes per game in his seventh NBA season. He considerably improved his accuracy from distance (41.1 3FG%) and missed just one game of the shortened regular season.

Last year, Randle finished with an average of 19.5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He is the first Knick to win the Most Improved Player award since its inception in 1985, winning 98 of 100 first-place votes. Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant and Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. finished second and third, respectively.

Randle was about as dependable as one can be during the regular season. However, the Knicks will need their All-Star to step up this week after he struggled in game one of their first round series against the Atlanta Hawks. Trae Young’s heroics left the Knicks with a 107-105 home loss to start the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Game 2 is Wednesday at 7:30 pm Eastern time at Madison Square Garden.
