It’s been a while since the New York Knicks won a playoff game, so naturally, fans are celebrating outside Madison Square Garden like they just won the NBA Finals.

New York Knicks fans are losing their minds after winning their first playoff game since 2013 on Wednesday night. If you were in downtown Manhattan and saw the celebration outside of Madison Square Garden, you might have thought the Knicks had just captured the Larry O’Brien trophy.

The Knicks last won an NBA championship in 1973. After just one 101-92 victory over the Atlanta Hawks — in round one of the 2021 NB Playoffs — fans are taking to the streets like they’ve won the Finals again at last.

Can you imagine the pandemonium and obnoxiousness if Julius Randle, RJ Barrett and company manage a deep playoff run?

Knicks fans hyped after first playoff win since 2013

There were nearly 15,000 fans in attendance Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden to witness the Knicks’ first playoff win in eight years. They chanted nonstop after the game and taunted Hawks fans leaving MSG.

With the series tied at one game apiece heading down to Atlanta, there’s still a long road to go for New York to make it out of the first round, let alone all the way to the NBA Finals. But it’s been a tough couple of years, so New Yorkers might as well celebrate the small victories. It’s about the journey, not the destination, after all.
