The Bengals were lining up for a field goal to go to the Super Bowl but, before the kick, Tony Romo completely roasted himself on the broadcast.

With the Bengals vs. Chiefs game in the AFC Championship on Sunday, CBS was obviously on the call, meaning that former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was in the booth for Jim Nantz. As was predictable, a tight, wild game to determine which team would be going to the Super Bowl got Romo hyped up in the booth.

But that didn’t stop him from completely owning himself to the point that it was almost a work of art.

In overtime as Cincinnati had just picked off Patrick Mahomes and had the chance to win, they were setting up to attempt a game-winning field goal that would leave them in the NFL’s final two. But before the kick, Romo warned that holders have messed up before in this spot and cost their team the game, a joke that Nantz missed.

Tony Romo owns himself on Bengals game-winning field goal

In case you have been living under a rock, this was the play that Romo was referring to as the then-Cowboys quarterback botched the hold and cost Dallas a seemingly locked up playoff win.

Honestly, it’s a shame that Nantz didn’t hear his broadcast partner. The CBS legend is always a professional but you can get him tickled on occasion and, had he heard this self-deprecating joke, he might’ve broken just a bit.

Bengals fans, however, are just thankful that Romo didn’t put that bad juju on their special teams as they made the game-winner and are now moving on to face either the Rams or 49ers in the Super Bowl.
