Bryan Harsin has been on the hot seat all season, but Auburn football fired their head coach on Monday and college football fans had plenty of thoughts.
Bryan Harsin is no longer the head coach of Auburn football.
In all honesty, fans and analysts alike have been waiting for that statement to fully be true for months now as the Tigers tried to oust Harsin at the end of last season and he entered this year on the hot seat. But after Saturday’s loss to Arkansas and dropping to 3-5 on the season. That also made him 9-12 overall since he took over the Tigers program.
Frankly, many expected that the firing would happen at the bye week after making Harsin a sacrificial lamb against Georgia and Ole Miss. But that didn’t happen and he was on the sidelines against Arkansas, but that loss was apparently the final straw for the Tigers administration, fittingly on the day that they hired their new athletic director, John Cohen.

With Harsin finally being fired as expected, the Twitter trolls were ready with jokes galore. But the fact that Auburn made the move on Nick Saban’s birthday and a day before Harsin’s 46th birthday only added fuel to the memes and jokes that ensued.

This, to be sure, isn’t a celebration of Harsin getting fired. It’s simply the fact that this has been expected for quite a while now and everyone was ready for it to happen. That’s the business of college football sometimes.
With that said, Auburn football, new AD in tow, will now begin their search to replace Harsin and there will be no shortage of big names thrown around, perhaps most notably Lane Kiffin, Deion Sanders and even Urban Meyer should he be so inclined. Rest assured, the Tigers have no qualms with throwing a lot of money at the problem to try and get this right.
As for Harsin, it’s not entirely his fault that things didn’t work out at Auburn. He was put into a bad situation that was unfamiliar, which ultimately set him up to fail. Given the success he had at Boise State, though, Harsin will get looks for another job elsewhere, should he be so inclined. After all, he’s due a $15 million buyout and $7.5 million of that within 30 days of being fired. He might be content to rest on that for a bit as he looks for another gig.
