New Auburn athletic director John Cohen wasted no time in canning Bryan Harsin on Monday.

On Halloween, John Cohen proved to be Bryan Harsin’s grim reaper as the Auburn head coach.

The former Mississippi State athletic director left his alma mater for the gig at Auburn on the final day of October. While the former Bulldogs baseball coach had an awesome job in Starkville, the NIL opportunities and a bigger budget at Auburn were too good to pass up. Cohen’s first order of business was to can the Tigers’ failing head coach. And guess who Auburn plays on Saturday???

If there was ever a day to tune into The Paul Finebaum Show, today would have to be that day.

At least Cohen had the decency to not fire Harsin on his 46th birthday, which is tomorrow…

Look. As many people will dance on Harsin’s Auburn grave, he is a good head coach and has a family. It is not his fault that it didn’t work out for him in the SEC. He was set up to fail by a former athletic director who didn’t know what he was doing. Harsin had great success previously at Boise State and in his one year at Arkansas State before that. He is a top candidate at Colorado for sure.

And even though it was especially brutal, we have to give Cohen and Auburn credit for finally ripping the band-aid off. This could not have dragged on for another week. Auburn is not going anywhere until the Tigers have a new face in charge of the football program. Although this is not an easy job at all, it is one where the right head coach can get to and win a national championship.

For now, Cohen will have to begin the interviewing process of finding Auburn a new head football coach. While he has a previous working relationship with Dan Mullen at Mississippi State, there is a reason why it did not work out for him at Florida: Recruiting. Matt Rhule is also out of work, and who knows how long Urban Meyer will remain satisfied on a TV set or Deion Sanders at his HCBU?

And just like that, Auburn has become the best available college football job this offseason cycle.
