Nico Iamaleava has the most raw talent in the 2023 class and the Vols can bring it out

When you talk about the most physically impressive athletes at the quarterback position for the 2023 college football recruiting class, you aren’t going to find anyone who surpasses Nico Iamaleava. The Tennessee recruit from Downey, CA is an all-around athlete that has collegiate volleyball potential but is instead focusing on bringing his 6-foot-6, 200-pound frame to the gridiron.

The Vols will thank him for that, especially since he started to challenge Arch Manning for the No. 1 recruit label down the stretch for some services thanks to his progression and development as a quarterback in his final high school season.

Iamaleava has always possessed the strongest arm of the class — which makes it no wonder he ended up with this iteration of Tennessee — but he’s started to show more ability to harness that and change his proverbial pitch type in order to make more plays. Moreover, he’s both fast and quick, which makes him exceptionally allusive to opposing rushes. Even better, his overall feel for the position has notably improved throughout his high school career.

Now he’s going to be in the highly potent Josh Heupel offense for his college football career and the potential seems limitless. Based on his profile, he seems to be a suped-up version of Hendon Hooker combined with Joe Milton, which is a lethal combo in this scheme. If he keeps developing as expected, Manning could be looking up at him as the best QB from the 2023 class.
