Colorado transfer says he was told to leave, can’t get film

Former Colorado tight end Zachary Courtney took to Twitter to inform teams that he is being denied access to his practice film.

The Colorado Buffaloes held their first spring game with Deion Sanders as head coach this past Saturday, where Folsom Field was packed with fans. But shortly after the game, an unprecedented 18 players on Colorado were entering the transfer portal. One player who announced his transfer prior to the spring game is speaking out to let interested teams know that he is unable to do one thing — get his practice film.

Tight end Zachary Courtney took to Twitter to inform those teams that he isn’t allowed to get his film because Sanders won’t allow it. In a separate tweet, Courtney said that it was by no means a shot directed at Sanders, but it was just a message to let other programs know that he won’t be able to get the film.

When a Twitter user replied, “probably because he quit before the the spring game,” Courtney replied “they told me to.” That tweet has since been deleted.

Colorado linebacker Kaden Ludwick, who also entered the transfer portal, backed up Courtney, tweeting out “we all need our film lol.”

Courtney is a three-star recruit who committed to Colorado back in 2021. After announcing his decision to enter the transfer portal on Apr. 19, Courtney announced that he received offers from Coastal Carolina and Miami (OH) one day later.

Sanders has seen a total of 41 players enter the transfer portal since he arrived at Boulder after the season. After the spring game, Sanders knew that the roster turnover was going to continue. A day later, 18 players left, including wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig.

“You all know that we’re gonna move on from some of the team members and we’re gonna reload and get some kids that we really identify with,” Sanders said, h/t On3 Sports. “So this process is gonna be quick, it’s gonna be fast, but we’re gonna get it done.”

While Sanders has said since his arrival that there would be change on the roster, he is allegedly not allowing those players who choose to play elsewhere to get their film.
