Cincinnati Bengals assist in cancer treatement of Devon Still’s daughter
By Bryan Rose
The Cincinnati Bengals currently employ one of the best defenses in the NFL and needless to say, roster space is at a premium.

That’s something defensive tackle Devin Still found out this past weekend when head coach Marvin Lewis called the third-year player and informed him that he was being cut.
Such a conversation is difficult enough under normal circumstances though Still’s daughter is currently undergoing cancer treatment and the defensive player was using his NFL salary and insurance to help pay for her mounting medical bills.
Aware of that, the Cincinnati Bengals offered up a helping hand as they informed Still that they would be keeping him on the practice roster (assuming he didn’t get claimed on waivers and decided not to sign elsewhere) which will allow him to not only remain close to his daughter (currently in a hospital) but will also allow him to keep his NFL insurance.
"When Lewis made his practice-squad pitch to Still, he sold him on the following: That he’d still get to play with the team that drafted him. He’d continue to get a paycheck and insurance from that same team. And he wouldn’t have to pick up and move even further across the country from his cancer-stricken 4-year-old girl."
Still, who stated that he understandably hasn’t been completely focused on football, said he’s lucky and very thankful for what the Cincinnati Bengals did for him.
“They could have just washed their hands completely of it. Said, ‘We don’t care what’s going on in his personal life, we just want people who can care 100 percent on football.’ That’s, after all, what they pay us to do.”
A very heart-warming story and nice sentiment from the Cincinnati Bengals.
