Florida State DT Niles Lawrence-Stample out for season
Florida State escaped with a win over Clemson last Saturday night despite missing star quarterback Jameis Winston, but the win may have been more costly than first thought.

The Associated Press is reporting that starting nose guard Niles Lawrence-Stample will miss the rest of the season with a torn pectoral muscle suffered in the home win over Clemson on Saturday.
According to the report, Lawrence-Stample played through the injury during Saturday’s game but will undergo surgery that will shut him down for the rest of the season.
It’s a big blow, literally and figuratively for the Seminoles defense. Lawrence-Stample was a massive space-eater up front with his 314-pound frame. He also had nine tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss through three games this season—his first as a starter for FSU.
The junior will likely be replaced by fellow junior Derrick Mitchell, Jr., who has made five tackles in a back up role this season.
Florida State’s defense has been one of the strongest this season, coming into Week 5 having survived both Oklahoma State and Clemson’s high-powered offenses.
Losing depth and a quality player like Lawrence-Stample certainly hurts the ability for this team to combat the run, especially given the fact that FSU is the No. 79-ranked rushing defense in the country already.
Mitchell, Jr. will have big shoes to fill in hopes of making this defense much more stout against the run in the coming weeks.
