For much of the regular season the Milwaukee Brewers looked to be the best team in the National League Central division.

More from Milwaukee Brewers

Alas a late season falter barred any postseason hopes and the Brewers’ collapse just so happened to be a microcosm of Francisco Rodriguez’s season. K-Rod opened the year in dominating fashion and looked to be among the elite in the game.

Many expected that it was nothing more than Francisco Rodriguez having a good month but the veteran closer continued to pitch well and helped the Milwaukee Brewers own the best record in baseball for some time. Sadly Francisco Rodriguez’s carriage eventually turned into a pumpkin and his numbers began to elevate, though he still finished the campaign with a very respectable 3.04 ERA and 44 saves.

Now he’s hopeful that he can return to the Milwaukee Brewers next season.

“I definitely know where I want to be. I want to be here. But it is not my decision. There are a lot of things the front office has to do over the course of the winter. They know how I feel. My heart is going to always be here.”

While he may want to remain with the organization, the Milwaukee Brewers may not be able to afford him and already have Jonathan Broxton on the roster to serve as a potential replacement. It sounds like the two sides will attempt to hammer out a deal but unless Francisco Rodriguez wants to give a discount, it may not happen.
