The Anaheim Ducks, so far, had been somewhat invincible.

Then, Dany Heatley did something to his groin, and here we are. The 33-year-old forward was apparently injured during the Ducks pre-season matchup Sunday night against the L.A. Kings, and it has been announced that he will be out for the remainder of the pre-season.

  • I’m inclined to call bluff on some of these injuries. Either this pre-season really has been absolutely devastating to line-ups, or teams saw the Jordan Staal fiasco and are preemptively cushioning their most valuable players in an attempt to prevent the same misfortune from befalling their own squads.

Heatley, who is on his first season with the Anaheim Ducks, is coming to the team off a three-year campaign with the Minnesota Wild. In addition to the Wild, he has served as an offensive force for the San Jose Sharks, Ottawa Senators, and The Team Formerly Known As The Atlanta Thrashers.  Last season saw his lowest production numbers to date, with only 12 G and 16 A in 72 games. Should he bring back even a fraction of his former potential this season, Mr. #50in07 might be able to help Anaheim bring home their second Stanley Cup; more likely, both he and the team saw their best years back in 2007.
