Apparently, today is “we need to agree to terms with our RFA’s ASAP” day. The Dallas Stars have followed the Boston Bruins’ suit, and agreed to a contract with Cody Eakin.

The deal will expire at the end of two years, but isn’t too shabby as far as bridge deals go.

More from Dallas Stars

Eakin, who will be entering his third season with the Dallas Stars, is considered one of the team’s brightest young forwards. He walked away from his 81-game campaign in the 2013-2014 season with 16 G and 19 A for a perfectly respectable 35 points overall, and added another five points (2 G, 3 A) during the team’s six-game playoff run.

The signing of Eakin does raise an interesting question, though. He was one of two players on the Stars left floating in restricted free agent limbo, yet it doesn’t appear that fellow RFA Brenden Dillon has been able to come to terms with the franchise.

Dillon, who played the most minutes for the team last season while serving on the blue line, could potentially be holding out for a higher offer from the franchise. He was one of the team’s most valuable defenseman last season, walking away from his 81-game campaign with an impressive 6 G and 11 A. It’s likely that fans will get more information on his holdout as the week progresses.
