As an NFL quarterback, you have two jobs. First you need to lead your team to victory and secondly you need to make sure you don’t put your teammates in position to get destroyed. So far Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is in the process of working on the first issue but the second he’s apparently having trouble with.
Dalton, who at times can be a bit wild sometimes leads his receivers into rather poor situations and he did so today with running back Giovani Bernard who was absolutely blown up in the backfield.
Giovani Bernard swung out to the left where Dalton saw the running back open – or so he presumed. A little swing pass wouldn’t normally lead to a devastating hit but apparently lacking blockers, the Cincinnati Bengals running back was lit up by a member of the Indianapolis Colts’ secondary.
Seriously, that looked painful to watch. You could almost hear the bones shifting in the slow motion view as Bernard’s head jerked back.
Certainly can’t begrudge Bernard for not holding onto the ball in that case as not only was he hit near his hands initially, that was a massive body blow which all but took the All-Pro running back off his feet.
Thankfully nobody was seriously injured as such a hit could have done some major damage.
