Andy Dalton had a historically bad night. It was the 5th lowest passer rating posted by any NFL quarterback since 1960 with a minimum of 30 pass attempts.
For the Cincinnati Bengals, Thursday was not a great night. For their QB Andy Dalton, it was even worse. Of all quarterbacks to attempt 30 passes in an NFL game, his rating was the fifth-lowest since 1960 (2.0).

Not since Scott Brunner in December of 1983 (10-of-35,108 yards, 0 TD, 4 INT), has a quarterback thrown for a rating of 2.0 or less with a 30 pass attempts minimum, according to STATS Inc. The last time any player threw for a lower tally with a 20 pass minimum was Jeff Garcia in 2004 when he posted a mind boggling 0.0 rating on 8-27 for 71 yards 0 TD and 3 INT.
What was originally supposed to be a clash of two quality football teams turned into a defensive onslaught. The Cleveland Browns pressured Andy Dalton all night, causing him to throw three interceptions while mustering a measly 86 yards through the air on just 10-33 passing. The final score was 24-3, a tough loss at home for a Bengals team that was, in most minds, the early season favorite to win the AFC North division. This setback drops the team to 5-3-1 on the year.
Meanwhile, under center for the Browns, Brian Hoyer continued his brutally efficient play by contributing 198 yards passing on 15-of-23 attempts. While he did not throw for any touchdowns, he also remained interception free and led three different rushers to scores. He is now 9-3 as the team’s starter dating back to last season. Even more shocking is that it is 2014, and we are talking about a Cleveland Browns team that is in first place within their division at 6-3 through 9 games.
